Schools in the

area around the

agency refer
students who
they think have
a drug abuse
problem to the
agency in search
of assistance.
1.
A series of meetings
between year co-
ordinators, teachers
and students occur
before they are
referred to the
agency to seek
assistance. If the
conclusion of the
meetings is that the
program is best for
the student then the
go ahead is given for
the student to
commence.
2.
Students are put through
many examinations both on
the phone and in person
before being accepted into
rehabilitaional facitlities to
ensure the faciility is able to
cater to the needs of the
student.
In some schools, a zero
tolerance policy towards drug
abuse from their students is
implemented . So referrals to
the agencies do not occur for
each student exhibiting drug
issues.

SCHOOL REFERRAL

1.
For an adolscent i.e. under
18, a court date is set to
determine the next course of
action where a judge will rule
a sentence depending on the
circumstances of the
situation and its severity.
2.
The courts may offer a range
of consequences including
seeking rehabilitation as part
of conditions and as an
alternative to being
sentenced to time in a
juvanille correction facility.
3.
In extreme cases where
adolescents have been
sentenced to juvanille justice
centres, groups such as Fr.
Rileys Youth of the streets
can provide support
programmes similar to that
offered within a juvinille
centre. This helps to regulate
life again after prison.
JUVENILLE JUSTICE SYSTEMS

1.
Both family and friends are able to refer troubled teens to the Dunlea Alcohol and Other
Drug Youth Services. Before a referral is accpeted there must be sufficent evidence of
drug use.

2.
Once a call is made Staff on duty will conduct an initial telephone assessment to assess
eligibility for the service. If the family or friend provides enough viable information on
the state of the person they are referring then the agency would be able to act upon the
referral.
3.
Suspected drug use, causal use or use at recreational events such as parties does not
qualify for means of assesment. Unless the referee is able to provide evidence of
continual use and dependancy, the agency cannot take further action.
FRIENDS AND FAMILY REFERRAL

If the service is not
right for them, advice
and anything they
would like to discuss
including concerns
and other helplines
are available.
Much the same if
family or friends refer
them, a telephone
assessment is made to
assess if they are
eligible for the servce
and its
appropriteness.
An adolescent is able
to refer themselves to
the agency and
commence the
programs in which
they provide to assist
with their drug abuse
problems given they
meet the critera.
