UNIVERSITY OT COIORADO HEALIH August l5th,2014 UEXCEL Board Members University of Colorado Hospital 12605 E. 16ft Ave. Aurora, CO 80045 Dear UEXCEL Board Members, It is with great pleasure I proudly endorse Aurora Davis, RN, BSN, OCN for promotion to a Level III registered nurse. Aurora joined University of Colorado Hospital as part of the new graduate residency program in2009 and has worked on the Oncology/BMT unit since that time. As you will see, Aurora is committed to our unit, our orgarrrzation and the profession of nursing. She has accomplished significant milestones in her nursing career in just five years. Aurora has tirelessly championed our unit's pain management efforts over the last year and half. She transitioned from the Skin Champions of Change Committee where she had represented our unit for two years to the Pain Champions of Change Committee (PCCC) in20l3. Through her work on PCCC and evaluation of our unit's HCHAPS scores related to pain management, Aurora identified the need for a more formal educational tool for patients. She worked with the PCCC and Patient Education Committee to devise and obtain approval for the tool. Additionally, Aurora gave PowerPoint presentations at staff meetings to educate nurses regarding the importance of utilizing the tool when providing patient education. Ultimately, her tool has been rolled out hospital-wide and is incorporated into admission packets for all admitted inpatients. Her initiative and impeccable follow-through during this process is remarkable. She has since become the co-chair of the Pain Champions of Change Committee. This is a huge testament to her leadership abilities. Her work on this committee has encompassed not only our unit, but the entire UCH organization. Additionally, Aurora has shown a tremendous commitment for the specialty of Oncology. She obtained her Oncology Nurse Certification in 2013 and continues to be an outstanding preceptor. Aurora is also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Metro Denver Oncology Nursing Society. Furthermore, Aurora has taken the initiative to send "Learning Opportunities" emails to staff over the course of this last year. They have been very valuable to our young staff in learning the nuances of oncology and BMT nursing. These emails also reflect her excellent communication skills and leadership presence on our unit. Aurora is huge asset to our Oncology/BMT team and University of Colorado Hospital. Her leadership and engagement on our unit, to the field of nursing and specialty of Oncology/BMT is truly phenomenal. Aurora is very deserving of promotion to a Level III nurse as she has shown that she possess the skills necessary to perform at this level.
