Indian Railway is one of the world's largest networks comprising

115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 65,000 km (40,000 mi)

and 7,500 stations. Indian Railways is the world's ninth largest
commercial or utility employer, by number of employees working.
Established in 16
th
April 1853, a department owned and controlled by
the Govt.of India, via the Ministry of Railways, its divided into
several zones with headquarters in New Delhi.
Over the years Indian Railways is equipped with several
problems & issues. Many important places are not well connected by
railways. The personnel costs and operating costs have increased
several times over the past decade offsetting a good percentage of the
loss. There are several measures & initiatives that have been taken
like improvements of sanitation & meals, taking care of passenger
security, introductions of superfast Bullet trains, wifi facilities in
important stations & total paperless digitalized systems. But still
there is a huge scope for development & there is still a long way to
go.
