Standard Lab Format (30 points)

2 Basic Rules: IF I CANNOT READ ITI WILL NOT GRADE IT. NO NAMENO GRADE

1. You may ONLY use 2 sheets of GRAPH PAPER, front and back
2. The GRAPH (Results section below) MUST OCCUPY ONE ENTIRE SIDE OF A PAPER BY ITSELF
3. All lab reports are to be kept in your 3-ring binder after they are returned to you
4. Do NOT use personal pronouns (I, me, we, us)
5. Put ONE LINE though any mistakes or corrections: NO WHITE OUT
6. Writing must be legible AND IN BLUE OR BLACK INK: I WILL NOT GRADE ANY LAB REPORT THAT IS DONE IN PENCIL or has any
color ink other than blue or black
7. Do not write in the margins, or sideways on your paper
8. Follow the exact sequence provided below unless instructed otherwise

Title (1pt)
Write the name of the lab or experiment (Centered)

Question/hypothesis
Write one or two sentences explaining what is the purpose for performing the lab/experiment (2pts)

Prediction
Write a sentence that gives an educated guess as to the outcome of the experiment. Include words: if, then, because. (2pts)

Procedure
Describe the process or each step needed to complete the lab. (1 pt)
List and number each step (1pt)
Include enough information and details so that the lab could be repeated (1pt)
State your positive/negative controls and variables (3 pts)

Data
Record the measurements (quantitative data) in a CHART or TABLE. If you make qualitative observations, be sure to explain
how you turn it into quantitative data (3 pts)

Display measurements as a GRAPH, and/or diagram (if applicable) (3pts)

Discussion/Analysis
Answer question(s) provided in the lab. Use complete sentences. DO NOT write the questions (5pts)

o State whether or not the hypothesis was/not supported by your experimental results. (1pt) Provide evidence
from your lab for your statement. (1pt)
o Explain the results using evidence from the data. Identify any trends or patterns in the data. (2pts)
o Draw some conclusions and support them with your data (1pt)

o Identify any errors and possible reasons/sources for the errors (this cannot relate to human error) (1pt)
o Give recommendations for further investigations, improvements to the lab. What further experiments should be
performed to clear up discrepancies or ambiguities (inconsistencies) in your results? (1pt)
o Give at least one example of how the concepts learned in this lab relate to real life situations. (1pt)
