5 areas that will require consideration for the quality plan

These rules have been developed specifically for air-cooled heat exchangers manufactured by T&S
and should not be applied to any other heat exchanger types.
1. Design: a review must be carried out, to ensure that the design meets the requirements of
the customer
2. Materials
3. Manufacture
- Welding
- Qualification of personnel
4. Inspection and testing: all manufacturing processes, must be grouped under the 4 testing
groups mentioned in the standards (13445)
5. Delivery
A detailed quality plan must be ready before production can commence, and should include:
- Inspection points and frequency of the testing (classify this according to the available
testing groups).
- Provision should be made, for re-work of rejected components
- Materials must comply with the materials standards or the specifications
- Variations in the manufacturing process that affect integrity of the vessel must be
identified and monitored. E.g. moisture content of consumables, interpass temperature
between multi-pass welds
- Inspection functions must be clearly defined in the quality plan. For example, personnel
who do the visual testing, hydraulic testing etc.
- Visual inspection level required
- Inspection and testing group needed.
Testing techniques must be selected according to 17635
