To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Amy Johns and I am a staff nurse on D4-Orthopedics. I am applying for Level IV of the
Clinical Advancement System. I have worked on D4 since I graduated from the ADN program at
Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) in 2011. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
degree from Ferris State University on December 14
th
of this year. Along with achieving my BSN, I also
received my orthopedic nursing certification in January. I have a tremendous professional and academic
work ethic. I graduated from NMC with honors and was on the Deans List every semester of my ADN
and BSN programs. I will be applying for the Master of Science in Nursing program at FSU this summer
and hope to start in January of 2015.

As a staff nurse, I place tremendous importance on modeling positive, professional behavior and
communication with every staff member at all times. I have recently completed training for the role of
charge nurse and have begun working in this leadership position. I am looking forward to adapting my
positive relationship with my coworkers to this new role and to serving the needs of our unit in this way

I have demonstrated that I function very well in a variety of leadership roles. I served as Chair-Elect of
our Unit Action Council from October 2012 through December 2013, at which time I took over as Chair
and as such, began attending Nurse Executive Council meetings. As part of these shared governance
leadership roles, I am heading a project that will comprehensively improve our units intake and output
charting. This project will also be featured in our Magnet

Program recertification application. I am

learning about the structure and principles of leadership not only as they relate to Munson Medical
Center, but also as a responsible steward of the profession of nursing. I embrace the tenets of Magnet

philosophy, and I understand how achieving and maintaining Magnet

certification directly contributes to

the incredible quality of our work environment and to the exceptional care we provide for our patients.

I truly believe that my values are directly in line with the vision, mission, and philosophy of Munson
Healthcare and that I would be an asset to the Clinical Advancement System. I continue to be honored
with the opportunity to serve our patients, our community, and my coworkers through my work at
Munson Medical Center and I look forward to new roles of service through leadership.

Sincerely,

Amy Johns, BSN, RN, ONC
