Re: How do we circumvent DRM?

law as I'm doing it, even though I paid $322 for them.

I know mobiread is supposed to have tutorials on how to do it, but I was wondering if anyone from
here could explain how to do it so that it's easy for a non computer guy like me to do it?

Thanks.

First of all: make sure that removing DRM is legal in your country. You might be breaking
the law; if so, don't do it.

• EPUB:
If the books are in EPUB-format, you can strip the DRM in Windows using the scripts
found here. First, install Python 2.6 and PyCrypto and of course Adobe Digital Editions. Be
sure to activate Digital Editions.

Then, download this script and run it. It should report that the key has been successfully
copied / detected / whatever.
Then, download this script and run it. Select the EPUB-file you want to decrypt, and you're
good to go!
• Mobipocket:
If the books are in Mobipocket-format, PM me to get the python scripts needed to decrypt.
• MS Reader:
If the books are in the MS-Reader (.LIT)-format, follow the instructions from this site, or
just download the program at ConvertLIT and follow their instructions.

Circumventing Adobe ADEPT DRM for PDF

One unpublished algorithm and a full PDF parser later, the same ADEPT per-user key-pair allows
full decryption of ADEPT-encrypted PDF files. Nothing terribly exciting here from a security
perspective, except to note that Adobe putting all its “content-protection” eggs in one DRM basket
has only made breaks in the system more fruitful. If all/most e-book suppliers used a single
common DRM scheme across all formats – as argued for by some people at Adobe – how long do
they honestly think the system would remain secure? As turned out to be the case with the DVD
Content Scramble System, more implementations meant more opportunities for breaks. Wider use
of the system meant more incentive to break the system. Not a good combination, from the DRM-
provider perspective.

But now what you’re really here for – the PDF decryption tool: http://pastebin.com/f1cb3663c.
(And if you don't already have it, the key-retrieval tool: http://pastebin.com/f26972321.)

And I wasn’t originally going to go here, but I’ve decided Adobe just left themselves too open by
calling their DRM system “ADEPT”. The overall ADEPT-removal system is now called “INEPT,”
for I♥cabbages iNformation Extraction and Preservation Technology. Sorry, Adobe. ^_^

So does anyone know where I can plug this stuff in? I'm lost

Can someone help me or us out with this? I spent $322 bucks on this stuff and I don't read ebooks
on my computer. Ebooks are for ebook readers. Apparently ebooks.com and adobe don't realize
that.

I just saw that you can't post scripts here so here are the links:

Re: How do we circumvent DRM?

This process seemed to be going very well.

I bought an epub book from the W H Smith site. Downloaded the file - double clicked on it and it
downloaded the book and opened Digital Editions.

So I closed digital editions and ran the ineptepub.pyw script. Dialogue appeared in which I selected
the epub book and chose a directory and file name for the output. Hit Decrypt.

And it told me it isn't an ADEPT EPUB??????

Re: How do we circumvent DRM?

if you want to break drm and have a choice try and buy lits. They have always remained the best
ones to break, and you can convert them easily into a wide variety of formats. But as previously
mentioned make sure its not illegal to do in your country. Its always been a gray area - if you've
bought the books and have no intentions of passing it on why shouldn't you be able to break its drm
and read it in a format you prefer? . . .

Presumably you need to be running Microsoft Reader in Windows in order to have a .lit PID in the
first place? So if you're running a Mac or a PC with Linux this wouldn't be an option. Or have I
missed something?
I'm not actually sure as the lits I've purchased are drm free, but if your going to break the lit anyway
cant you just use a spurious ID (one that doesnt exist)?
