FIELD NOTES 1. Describe the content of the lesson that you observed.
Vines Students learned about where vines grow, what grows on vines, and what they look like.
2. Describe the instructional strategy or strategies (e. g., cooperative learning, peer tutoring, think alouds) that were utilized in the teaching of those concepts.
The teacher used cooperative learning when asking the students where vines grow, what grows on vines, and what they look like. The students were able to turn and talk to their partner and share their answers as a whole class.
3. Please describe if and how the teacher utilized the following during the lesson: models, the arts, and technology.
The teacher used the arts during this lesson by having the students create their veery own vines. To facilitate the lesson, she modeled how to create the vine step-by-step with the students. The students twisted pieces of brown paper together and glued the green leaves that they cut out. When the students were done, they combined their vines together to hang throughout the classroom.
4. Describe the assessment strategies that the teacher used to assess the content knowledge of the student. These assessments might be formative or summative.
During formative assessment, the teacher walked around and observed what the students were saying during turn and talk time. During summative assessment, the teacher had the students write what they learned about vines in their writing journals.
Take notes on student engagement. Pick several students to look at over the course of the lesson. All students were on task during turn and talk. All answers were relevant and appropriate to the material being discussed. A few students were talking without raising their hands to speak. One student was over by the reading station. The teacher asked him to come over to the carpet to join the class but he refused. The teacher had to call the supervisor to come chat with him about his behavior. The students were very excited about the craft but had a difficult time following directions because they were too busy talking to one another.
