By using the determinants of tourism discussed in the previous part, the total
tourism expenditure is computed using the following formula:

= No. of Visitors * Daily Expenditure/visitor *Length of Stay

As shown to get the total tourist expenditure, the number of visitor arrivals is
multiplied by the daily expenditure of each visitor and by the average length of stay of
the visitors. Figure _ shows that the total tourist expenditure decline from1999 to 2003
but it manage to increase at a low rate from 2003 to 2005. Fortunately, a large boost in
total tourist expenditure happened in 2006 and 2007.

Impact of the Total Tourism Expenditure on the Major Items of Tourism

Using the computed total tourism expenditure, the direct impact of this
expenditure on the sectors providing the major tourism items was computed. The share
on the major items of tourism on the total expenditure is obtained from multiplying the
total expenditure by the percentage share of each item as shown in table 5.8.

As shown in figure __, a large part was recorded as miscellaneous expenditure
because it includes the shopping expenses of the tourist. Accommodation receives a large
portion of the expenditure, followed by food and beverages sector. Third largest portion
goes to entertainment sector followed by the transport sector and guided tour.
