Dear Parents/ Carers
Today many of our musicians are performing in front of an audience on the stage at the Devon Schools Music Mix at Westpoint. We are delighted that our school has so much representation at this event. We hope that the children have a wonderful day and enjoy this experience. Our thanks to the adults that have been working with the children to prepare them for their performances.
We are delighted to be able to inform you that following interviews earlier this week, Miss Ruth Smit has been appointed as our Y4 teacher from September. She will be in school next Tuesday afternoon when we have our transition afternoon and children get the opportunity to work with their new class teachers for September. She will also be available for you to meet at Open Evening next Thursday.
The classes for September will be as follows: Nursery- Mrs Lisa Broad (3 days) and Mrs Alison Wilkinson (2 days) Reception- Mrs Hannah Jenkins Reception/Year 1- Mrs Bev Cawthera (3 days) (2 days) to be confirmed Year 1/2 Miss Carrie-Anne Hume Year 2- Mrs Pam Harrison (3 days) and Ms Elizabeth Stubbs (2 days) Year 3- Mrs Kelly Back Year 4- Miss Ruth Smit Collective Worship-Trinity-Trust Memory Verse: Jesus said I am with you always, even to the end of age. Year 5- Mrs Tori Dye (4 days) and Ms Elizabeth Stubbs (1 day) Year 6- Mr Sidaway Lee
You will notice from the classes list that the Governors have agreed that from September, Mrs Wilkinson will be the lead practitioner in the Nursery for 2 days a week and will be working alongside Mrs Broad for the other three days. This will ensure great continuity and continued high quality provision for all our children in this part of the school.
If your child is in Reception/Reception and Year 1/Year 1 and Year 2/Year 2 from September you will be informed of which class your child will be in tomorrow- so keep an eye out in book bags for the letter.
This Saturday is the SPSA Summer Fayre. A lot of hard work has been put into the organising of this event by the SPSA Fayre Subcommittee and we thank them ever so much for their efforts over the last few months putting it all together. We hope that you will be able to support this event on Saturday either by helping out on the day or coming along and spending some of your money. The SPSA raise extremely valuable funds that benefit the children in our school greatly and further enrich their learning experiences. Recently the SPSA donated six chrome books to the school for use in Key Stage 2 which have been a resounding success with our pupils.
We are holding our Open Evening on Thursday 10th July from 4-6pm. From 4-5pm you are welcome to visit your child's current class and to chat to your child's class teacher about their end of year achievement report if you have any minor queries. If you need an in depth conversation with the class teacher then please make an appointment outside of this time to speak to them as these sessions are always very busy. From 5-6pm you will have the opportunity to visit your child's new classroom and meet their new class teacher. We look forward to welcoming you to our Open Evening.
On Thursday 24th July from 2-3.15pm we will be having a Leavers Picnic for those staff that we will be saying a fond farewell to at the end of this term- Mrs Taylor, Mr Elliott, Mr Perkins and Miss Salter. Parents and Governors are welcome to join us on the school field (weather permitting- if the weather is poor the event will be held in classrooms) for our bring and share picnic. Over the next week, your child will be bringing home a slip containing a suggested item for them to bring along to our picnic, so that we do not end up with too much food and also so that we have a range of delights to eat. I am sure it will be a wonderful event that will provide us with an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the contribution that the leaving staff have made to our school. We hope you will be able to join us.
As I have mentioned above, at the end of this term, we will be saying a fond farewell to Mr Elliott, Mr Perkins, Miss Salter and Mrs Taylor. Mrs Taylor has been with us at St Peters for a tremendous 24 years, this is an incredible length of service to the school. Mr Elliott, Mr Perkins and Miss Salter have also made an extremely valuable contribution to our school in the time that they have been here. We will be having a collection for a gift for each member of staff who is leaving as a token of our thanks and we would welcome contributions from parents and carers. Please can you put any contributions for our collection for Mr Elliott, Mr Perkins and Miss Salter into an envelope marked 'Staff leaving Collection'. We will be having a separate collection for Mrs Taylor so please can you put contributions for her collection into an envelope marked 'Mrs Taylor Leaving Collection'. We would be grateful if any contributions could be handed into the school office by Wednesday 16th July. With thanks in advance.
Mrs Lewis

Lunch Bunch Cafe News
The new school food standards have recently been announced. These are intended to help children develop healthy eating habits and ensure that they get the energy and nutrition they need across the whole school day. The guiding principle of the food standards is to provide a wide range of foods across the week. Variety is key and I hope our new menu will tempt your children to try a range of different fruits, vegetables, grains, types of meat and fish. Some of the changes we have made to meet the new guidelines are: Freshly cooked wholemeal bread rolls will be available to accompany lunch every day. Wholegrain pasta will replace the plain pasta. This will provide a good source of fibre which is important for healthy digestion. We will continue to use a 50/50 brown/white mix for rice. We will serve a dessert containing at least 50% fruit at least twice a week. Oily fish will be served once or more every three weeks. We have planned this new menu very carefully to ensure it meets all the new guidelines which come into place from January 2015. We hope that it will appeal to you and your children. If you have any queries or comments, please contact me at St Peters School Kitchen. We intend to trial the menu for the last two weeks of this term before bringing it in from September Juliette Smith, Catering Manager.
