How it will work at ALHS?

During each Wednesday advisory, all ALHS students will

spend 30 minutes engaging in activities appropriate for
their grade level on the five areas of readiness.
Activities will be grade level specific, focusing on skills
that will assist students to monitor their progress to-
ward being college ready by the end of high school.
Areas of focus will include students assessment of their:
Grades
Academic beliefs
Self-management
Effort and persistence
Standardized and college entrance test
scores

This work will vary by grade level, reflecting the skills
and concepts that students should encounter at that
point in their progress toward college readiness. In addi-
tion, 8th grade students will receive additional instruc-
tion and support in the 8th grade Pathways elective.
The curriculum we will use has been developed by the University of
Minnesota through the College Readiness Consortium, http://
www.collegeready.umn.edu/ and is being used by many districts
across the State of Minnesota.

What can you do as a parent/guardian?
Ask your student some time during each week, What are
you doing in RampUp? Start to become aware of the
activities that are going on during the advisory time and
how you can help encourage your student to develop the
readiness skills needed to be successful during and after
high school.
Review some of the areas recommended in the parent
guide that your student should be bringing home:
COLLEGE READINESS FOR PARENTS:
GETTING YOUR STUDENT READY FOR COLLEGE
