Alexander von Vegesack, founding director of the
Vitra Design Museum and originator of Boisbuchet,
first had the idea for the workshops twenty years
ago. To make it a reality, he sold his valuable
Thonet chair collection and acquired the extensive
property in the French dpartement of Charente
back in 1986. With flair and sensitivity, immense
dedication and his own personal connections, he
developed Boisbuchet into one of the most
renowned international sites of experimentation in
design and architecture. He established the non-
profit organization CIRECA, which handles the
coordination of the cultural activities.
