A Professionalism and understanding: Page 37
Lina emailed her lesson plans before each lesson, and was in the classroom ready for her students before each lesson. She clearly communicated the purpose of her lesson, both with the MCT and with the students, and was able to deliver her lessons in a way that was understood by both (lessons were delivered in Arabic, observations completed in English). She received feedback extremely well, and was willing and eager to address any concerns that the MCT or MST had. She demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm and this reflected in the high quality of both lessons observed. She clearly understood the topic being taught, and was able to introduce activities to students outside of lecture style instruction. Lina attended classes as required, and demonstrated significant outside class-time work on her lessons.
B - Planning for learning: Lina emailed specific lesson plans, in HCT format, along with all support documents (worksheets, supplementary paperwork) in English to the MCT within the required timeframe. She came to class prepared, and was prepared for the scheduled class, as required. She demonstrated preparation in class as well, managing the classroom environment before students arrived- moving chairs and materials, as well as testing the program accessibility that she would be using for the lesson (internet connection, power-point presentation, ect).
C - Implementing and managing learning: During each lesson, Lina demonstrated multiple strategies for classroom management, including redirection, moving students physically to another seat, physical proximity of herself to students, positive recognition, clapping for correct participation, positive body language, eye contact with students, adequate wait time for student response, sticker incentives, counting for time, expressive face and voice, and using group points/stars. She demonstrated a highly level of understanding of the multiple strategies for effective classroom management that might be necessary within a class. She has extremely high levels of energy and positive effect.
D - Monitoring and assessment of learning: Lina demonstrated solid understanding of monitoring student learning during lessons. She presented information in a way that required student response and participation, and then she was actively moving around the classroom to check student comprehension as they worked on practice materials on the computers. The nature of this class is that material is presented, and then students are able to practice the new skill with supervision. This strategy works very well in the computer lab, and Lina was able to confidently and effectively manage the learning environment. She was able to identify students who needed scaffolding, and provide assistance as required.
E- Critical Reflection: Lina met with me after her observations to discuss her teaching and the observations that I made during these times. She was able to provide insight into the rationale for the teaching decisions that she made, as well as engaged in a constructive dialog about strategies that might be employed to make teaching easier. She was very open and eager to discuss her teaching practice, and clearly demonstrated that she not only heard the input, but used it to impact her teaching. Page 38
General comments I was highly impressed with Linas teaching practice this semester. She demonstrated a strong classroom presence, along with control of the classroom (large classes of primary girls, over 25 each class). It should be noted that I believe that lesson 2 could be a model lesson, she delivered the material and ran the classroom with extremely high levels of competence and professionalism. Well done Lina!
