Summer officially starts this month! Here are some resources to keep your child involved in reading. I hope your family finds something to foster a love of reading during the summer that will continue throughout the year.
1. Memorial Hall Library (www.mhl.org)- Visit the library in person or online to find out about various programs offered throughout the summer. Sign-up to participate in Memorial Hall Library's summer reading program.
2. Dig Into Reading 2014 Summer Reading Program in Massachusetts. (www.readsinma.org). Away on vacation? Check this website for reading programs offered by towns at the local library level.
3. RAZ Kids (www.raz-kids.com) - Shawsheen students will still have access to their RAZ Kids accounts right through the summer.
4. Pearsons K-6 Leveled Reader Database (www.pearsonsuccessnet.com). Access this database of resources Username: Shawsheen; Password: reading1.
5. Sylvan Book Adventure (K-8) (www.bookadventure.com) - Children can find a book based on their personal interests, take quizzes, and earn prizes. The books used for this program can come from your own personal library, the bookstore, or the local library. The "Parent's Place" section has ideas and resources to support your reader.
6. Reading Rockets (www.readingrockets.org) - a website for both teachers and parents. Here are some articles that provide ideas to support reading during the summer:

8. Just Read, Families! (www.justreadfamilies.org/greatideas ) - Contains ideas from the Florida Department of Education including activities, publications, websites, recommended reading lists, and elementary reading loss brochure.
9. James Patterson's READKIDDOREAD.com (www.readkiddoread.com ) - Author James Patterson offers book recommendations, a summer reading challenge, and tips to get kids reading. Take a look at the Summer Literacy Adventure 2014.
10. Scholastic Summer Challenge (www.scholastic.com/summer ) - Help your child log his/her reading minutes to win prizes. In addition, click on the "Parents" link for tips, book lists, and the Scholastic reading timer app.
11. Barnes & Noble Summer 2014 Reading Program Imaginations Destination. (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/summer- reading/379003570/ ) - Read 8 books, record the titles on the B&N reading journal, and visit your local B&N store to choose a free book from a list of provided titles.
12. PBS Raise a Reader This Summer! (www.pbs.org/parents/education/read ) - This site includes games, apps, activities, book recommendations, and literacy tips.
13. Pottery Barn Summer Reading Challenge - (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/customer-service/store-events.html) - Read any 8 books from the recommended book list by July 31 st and receive a free book (refer to website for more details).
14. TD Bank 2014 Summer Reading Program - (www.tdbank.com/summerreading )- Read 10 books and receive $10.00 to deposit into a new or existing young saver account.
