Rural School District

Technology Plan

District Information:
The rural school district currently consists of one elementary school, one middle/
high school. We currently serve a student population of 500 that is made up of
roughly 30 classrooms. The district receives $6200 per pupil for their educational
needs. Our staff members are dedicated teachers who teach multiple courses. The
student population is primarily made up of white students who do not have limited
English proficiency. There are services for students with Individualized Education
Plans (IEPs).
District Technology Vision:
The rural school district is committed to engaging students in the classroom
through the use of technology so that all students may be prepared for life in the
21st century.
Technology Goal #1:
All learners will have access to technology in the form of a computer in the class
with internet access.
Purpose:
The ability to have internet access promotes student achievement through the
facilitation of research. This tool will increase student creativity and interest.
Action Plan:
Increase funding through the use of fundraisers, donations, endowments
Partner with nearest university for field trips/PD sessions
Research internet connection capabilities and cost
Resources:
Desktops/$400x 15= $6,000 dollars
Internet Connection/Adequate technology support
Professional Developments for changes being implemented
Timeline:
Purchase 2 computers during the 2012-2013 school year
Purchase additional computers (3 per year) over consecutive years
Evaluation:
Student achievement will be evaluated through pre and post assessments
Surveys from all stakeholders to evaluate productivity
Technology Goal #2
All students will use the International Society for Technology in Education
National Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS) and will be integrated
throughout the K-12 curricula.
Purpose:
To provide students and parents with the clear goals and expectations for
technology within the classroom.
Action Plan:
Provide all staff members with copies of the standards
Post weekly technology standards within the classroom
Provide creative lessons on technology (ie-file folder keyboards etc)
Resources:
Standards printed and bound
Teacher collaboration on how to integrate into curricula
Timeline:
Weekly implementation begins 2012-2013 school year
Evaluation:
Pre and post assessments of students understanding of standards
Technolog Goal #3
All stakeholders will participate in collaborative meetings to establish cost
effective strategies to increase technology within the area.
Purpose:
To increase revenue that will be utilized to fund technology enhancements within
the district.
Action Plan:
Establish a Parent Teacher Council
Research costs of desktops
Establish a Technology Team
Resources:
Parents,Teachers,Students
Evaluation:
Review the funds raised to provide technology to students
Survey stakeholders for feedback on fundraisers
Summary of Needs:
The rural school district recognizes that there are many obstacles to meet these
goals but with the partnership between district and community our end goal is
viable. It is in the best interest of all our students to try to attain these lofty
goals. Our teachers are committed to integrating the technology standards into
every classroom regardless of an actual computer present. The goal is to have by
the end of the 2016-2017 school year that all classrooms are equipped with one
computer with internet access.
