End of Course Reflection

Through out the year I have learned many different topics. One topic that has
stuck with me out of all of them would have to be learning about the Pythagorean
Theorem. Although we didnt learn about it until later in the year it became useful
towards future assignments. The Pythagorean Theorem states that a squared plus b
squared equals c squared. Using the Pythagorean Theorem helped to find the
missing side lengths. Although this was a short and straightforward lesson it
became an advantage to know it for future lessons. For example when we started
working on Trigonometry using the Pythagorean Theorem helped me be able to
solve some problems faster. For example, if I was trying to identify an angle
measurement but was missing a side length that I needed, I could use the
Pythagorean theorem to identify the side length. Overall I learned many topics that
became useful.
Although there were topics that were easy for me there were some that were
more challenging. One of the main skills that was a challenge for me to learn was
Transformations and Symmetry. I understood the basics about the topic. I
comprehended what rotations, reflections, and translations were but when it
started to go more in depth it got confusing. For example when given ordered pair
rules I didnt understand how to change it in the graph. Sometimes instead of going
down on the graph I would go up because I didnt understand. Or when I had to
identify what the ordered pairs were I never knew if I was doing it right. The one I
had the most trouble with was rotations. When a problem would say rotate it 90
degrees I never understood exactly where it needed to be. Even though
Transformations and Symmetry was one of the hardest topics this year I managed to
work through it and do my best on my work.
Technology has its negative impacts on teenagers lives but it also has
positives. Technology has definitely had a positive impact in Geometry class for me.
The main tech teaching technology that helped we was the flipped classroom.
Having videos that taught the lessons was useful. If I didnt understand what I was
learning I could easily re-watch the video until I understood it. In class you can ask
questions when confused but in some cases students get scared that their peers will
judge them. I know that if I feel like Ive asked to many questions I will stop asking
after a certain point. But, the videos also help when study for big tests. If I forgot a
topic we learn I can easily go back and re-watch the videos to remember. Overall
Geometry has used technology to make my understanding of math easier.
