LESSON STRUCTURE:

Students advised that over the next few lessons
we will explore art and music, beginning with
having a look at some colours used in art.

Students are asked to share the name of a colour
that they might know


Show students a sample of the colours red; yellow and
blue
-Can students name each colour?
-Can students name objects that are red; yellow and blue?

Questions:
Inform students that these 3 colours are special/unique
1. Why might each of the 3 colours red, yellow and
blue, be special/unique
A. These colours are the only colours that cannot be
made by mixing two other colours -no other colours can
make red, yellow or blue


2. What is the term for these 3 colours?
A. Primary colours a colour that cant be created
by mixing other colours (Trowbridge, 2013).

3. What might primary mean?

Advise students they will be colouring in their own
colour wheel using the 3 colours talked about

Q. What are the 3 colours we have talked about? (red,
yellow, blue)

Outcomes:



Using a predesigned colour wheel, explain the process
with students:

-STEP 1: Students write their name on the back of their
plate, using pencil or crayon

-STEP 2: Students colour:
-the number 1 triangle, in YELLOW
-the number 3 triangle, in RED
-the number 5 triangle, in BLUE

-STEP 3: Students to colour in their colour wheel neatly
Ensure students understand the process/requirements
of the colour wheel through questioning e.g.
Q. what is the first thing you need to do?
Q. What colour will you use in triangle number 1
Q. What colour will you use in triangle number 2
Q. What colour will you use in triangle number 3
ANY QUESTIONS?

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:

1. Students who complete their colouring in can cut out the
names of the colours, and stick it on the coloured triangle



2. If students complete tasks before end of lesson and time
permits, students can play a whole class game based on
colours:
Red, red, red touch your head
Blue-touch your shoe
Green look really mean
Pink-give a wink
White take a bite
Brown-touch the ground
Purple draw a circle
Yellow say hello
Black touch your back
Grey shout hooray.
*wait for the command
