Pediatric

Cancer
by Raul Guardado
What I set out to Learn
1. To research different types of pediatric cancers.
2. To experience volunteering.
3. To participate with St. Judes.
4. To perfect my speaking skills in front of bigger audiences.
5. To obtain experience in organizing events.
6. To help people in need
7. To understand victims perspective on the subject.
Research Argument
Pediatric cancer is something that should gain
financial attention because most parents cant
afford the cancer treatments for children.
Research Findings
In the United States approximately 10,400 children under
age 15 were diagnosed with cancer and about 1,545 children
will die from the disease.

On average, 1 to 2 children develop the disease each year for
every 10,000 children in the United States
Leukemias and cancers of the brain and central nervous system account
for more than half of childhood cancers

Research Findings (cont.)
Childhood Cancer is vastly unfunded
The cause of majority of pediatric cancers is
unknown.
Around 4% of cancer funding goes to Pediatric
Cancer funding.

Why did I choose to do this project?
I chose to do this project because I believe that
we should worry more about childrens health
and help them survive rather than ignore the fact
that they die due to lack of funds and awareness.
Volunteering in Great Urban Race.
Global Connection
The global connection is that children around the
world have some form of pediatric cancer and
they may not afford the treatments for a chance
of survival.
21st Century Skills
I have used 21st century skills by using the
internet to acquire information for the research
and to contact organizations for volunteering.
Greatest Success(es)
Raising Awareness
Volunteering and recognizing the importance of
my project
Selling Wristbands to give financial contribution.

Greatest Challenge(s)
Having A Job
Limited Time
Lack of resources (no internet)
Deadlines
What have I learned about the world?
There are kids all around the world that are being
affected by some form of pediatric cancer and
even though there are treatments in some
countries poor kids cant afford it.
What I have learned about myself
I need to learn to use my time efficiently when
available.
Changing the World in the Future
I will use the information to help raise more
awareness and help fundraise money for children
with a form of pediatric cancer.

Conclusion
This project was a great thing in terms of helping
people around the world within my community.
It probably could have been better if I had more
time available or had we been able to participate
in other events.
