PDHPE

IN PRIMARY
This presentation will discuss why PDHPE is important
in childrens lives, what it involves and what students
gain from participating in PDHPE.
WHY IS PDHPE IMPORTANT IN
SCHOOL?
Promotes physical activity Health experts say children
should be doing an hour of physical activity each day. By
engaging in physical activity, children develop strong bones
and avoid medical conditions such as obesity.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle Children who develop
physical habits at a young age are likely to maintain these
habits in the future.

Developing positive relationships It is essential for children to
develop positive relationships with family, friends and teams.
Children also develop negotiation skills, conflict resolution,
roles and responsibilities.

WHAT DO STUDENTS GAIN FROM THEIR PARTICIPATION IN
PDHPE?

Children participate in a range of activities involving sports, gymnastics
and dance.
Children have a knowledge of the effects of drugs and demonstrate
responses to protect themselves from drug-related harm.
Children develop friendships with a range of people. They also discuss
personal strategies to deal with difficult situations and consider feelings
of others when making decisions.
Children demonstrate a variety of movement such as throwing overarm,
kicking, skipping, hopping, jumping and running.
Children identify and understand how to remain safe in different
environments e.g. beach, blue mountains.
Continued

to success in games and demonstrates efficient ways of using
equipment while working cooperatively with others.
Children learn to make good choices in relation to food, sun
protection and personal safety.
Children understand the effects of bullying.
Children identify different body parts and understand some
situations can be different because of gender.
