Dance Reection

This was our rst time learning Hip Hop in PE, and it was the rst time we worked with a
big number of people in a group.SInce in grade 7, we worked with a partner, this year was
a bigger challenge, since there were a bigger number of people, however, there were
more ideas to be shared, since there was more than 2 minds working.
Through out this unit of hip hop, we learned various types of new techniques and moves
that we never learnt before. For some of us, it was a challenge.
We learnt a dance known as the soldier boy, which is a very popular hip hop dance, we
were put into three different groups to compose a dance for the soldier boy. And with that,
we created our nal composition. With the same groups, and with the same start of the
soldier boy song. We were to add more hip hop moves, and create an entire
choreography.
The rst time we composed the soldier boy dance, my group had no trouble with
choreographing it. We were all able to use our creativity and share our ideas together in
our groups. We came up with a very good choreographed routine for the rst dance,
however, when we began working on our nal composition, we all strugled to nd ideas
and new moves. Were to create a dance to be put into a dance battled against the other
groups, with solo performances to duets and groups performances all in one. My group
blocked out from ideas. Due to that, we waisted an entire class.
To make up for the lost time, we planned to work some time after school, because the next
class was when we had to present our nal dance. But again, due to the schools play
rehearsals we were not able to all make it, and work on our piece. With that, we had to
decide what would happen, and share all our ideas through text, and phone. We came up
with various types of ideas, song changing and wardrobe, all we hoped was if we could t
it all together on performance day.
As it was the performance day, we were given 30 minutes of class to prepare for our nal
performance which was to be shared with the rest of our class. We we gather all our
members together, and tried tting all that was shared trough the phone. We were lucky
enough that it all turned out just like planned. We were even able to come up with new
ideas.
Our nal performance went better than expected, and we were all very proud of what we
were able to accomplished. However if we were to do this unit again, we would have to
plan out our time more wisely during class, and be able to work better as a group, share all
our ideas as well as respecting each others ideas wisely.
We all contributed the same amount, but in many different ways. We managed to balance
everything out at the end. There was no singled member who didnt share ideas with the
group, some may not have been used, but we we were all creative about our ideas, and
managed to share it within each other. :)
