Name of Book__________Stop Snoring!____________Level_____E________________
1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus did the teacher include in the lesson today? Today we worked on stretching words and putting them back together. We did a round table read. The students did a picture walk, read every other page out loud, and then we read all together. 2. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn? The students were able to stretch the words and put them back together independently 90% of the time. This was something they already knew how to do, but they have mastered each step now!
3. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading. This week the level E book was much easier for them compared to the level E book they read last week. They had a much easier time with the words, and I realized it was partly because of the picture walk we did at the beginning of the lesson. They were familiar with what was going on in the book, so they were able to match the more challenging words with the picture. I found this really interesting, and now understand how important it is for them to take the time to go through and look at the pictures.
4. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment. How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation. The students were having trouble with the word shoulder and in the picture on the book the two kids were pushing their grandpas shoulder. So I asked them about the picture, and then they were able to put the two together and were able to read the word!

Dr. Cozens EDUC 342 Lesson Plan 2 Stop Snoring! Level E Objectives Students will be able to stretch words and put them back together as a way of figuring out larger Introduce and Connect First, I will show the students the book and have them read the title. Next, I ask them to go through the book and do a picture walk. Throughout this I will ask them questions like, Who are those kids? Who is that man? What do all of the ZZZZZZZs mean? Why are they doing that to him? Teach the Skill The skill Mrs. Woodruff would like them to practice is stretching words which they already know how to do. I will first ask them to show me how they stretch a word. I will continue to prompt them to stretch the words when they get stuck. Apply the Skill in Context While reading the book, when we come to hard words we will stretch them and put them together. I will facilitate by saying, lets break it down, what is the first sound? Then, after we have gone through the sounds I will say, now lets put those sounds back together. Write and Share At the end of the story, we will answer some of the questions we asked during the picture walk. We will also talk about people we know who snores. If we have extra time, I will have them make up their own story. They will get to each make up a small part and put it together.
