Powerful Pics

Barack Obama
Trace
Text- It is a picture. There is nothing unique about this picture
because all the past presidents took pictures like this. What is special
about it is that in this picture Barack Obama looks very friendly and
approachable. This picture is an introductory one to present the
nations president.
Reader- The intended audience is all of those wanting to know more
about the President of the United States. I am a part of the intended
audience. I am a citizen of the United States so I should know certain
things about the leader of my nation. A commonality that I share with
the author is that we are both in support of the US government.
There is no change offered by this picture because it is a relatively
conservative picture.
continued
Author- Pete Souza took this picture. The necessity of a picture for
Barack Obamas profile page prompted him to take the picture. Pete
Souza is the current Chief Official White House photographer.
Constraints- The photographer is required to make the picture
conservative so that it appeals to all US citizens. Some limitations that
affect how the reader views the picture are their political affiliation. A
noticeable indicator would be the blue tie that Barack Obama wears
to represent the Democratic party.
Exigence- The author must take this picture because he was hired as
the Chief Official White House photographer.

Why Select This Image? Music is a big part of my life. It allows me to concentrate and to relax. Music can alter the
mind in so many different manners that it is powerful.

What Does This Image State About Power? It states that power can be present in a non-tangible mode.

Why Do You State So? I state so because you cannot physically touch music that is created.

How Does This Image Fit With The Others In Your Collection (if at all)? The music industry is a billion dollar industry
and many of the most successful music artists are very knowledgeable and influential.
Paradigm
Piece- It is a graphic of musical notes. It was originally published in a
blog about music 3 on December 2 of 2013.
Agent- This image was posted by Allison Friedman but I doubt that
she actually created the image. Her credibility is as credible as her
blog and she can be contacted through email or a comment.
Receiver- The primary audience is those interested in music. I am part
of that intended audience because I listen to music every day. My love
of music causes me to see the musical notes as a positive thing when
others might only see symbols.
Agenda- The bias is that music is great. It is justified by making the
notes look free flowing and artistic.
continued
Demands- The piece urges that music is free flowing because the notes are
not contained to the lines. It doesnt matter what is demanded by the
picture because interpretation of music is entirely subjective.
Inquiries- I want to know if those notes represent a specific song or if they
are just random. My intuition tells me that the source is really into music. It
is attempting to sway me but I do not need manipulating because I love
music. What is see as manipulating is how free flowing and informal the
notes are.
Gains- I used to play the clarinet so I was used to seeing notes but because
the lines are not straight there is no way for me to tell which notes are
being played so I cant really gain anything except for aesthetic pleasure.
The only way it enhanced my life was that it allowed me to remember how
free music makes me feel.
Motivators- I believe the agent used this piece to show a generic symbol
for music. I wanted to select an image that obviously represents music so
there is nothing better than musical notes.
Land
Paradigm
Piece- It is a picture. It was originally published in a blog. I found it online. It was
originally posted May 8, 2012. The main point is that land is a good investment.
Agent- A blogger that goes by the name of Marie posted this picture. She has no
official credentials except that Family Money Values is her blog. She can be
contacted by commenting on her posts.
Receiver- The primary audience is anyone that is looking to invest in land. I am
not part of that intended audience because I dont have the required capital to
invest in land. In my opinion land will only become more and more valuable so I
totally agree with the message this image delivers.
Agenda- The blog is biased because it is all about ways to make money. It justifies
its credibility but giving both the positives and negatives for the reader to assess
risk. Then the author finishes with reasons why the positives outweigh the
negatives.
continued
Demands- The piece urges that you invest in raw land because you can
make a decent profit. If the demands are met the reader will invest in raw
land. If they are not the blog will be discredited and land will not be
bought.
Inquiries- I want to know how much the land in the picture is worth. I
believe the source is just a regular person that likes to blog. I dont believe
it is trying to manipulate me at all because it is an objective view of the
land.
Gains- The image got me thinking about investing in land. Now I know
more about the positives and negatives of investing in raw land. The only
enhancement it gave me is a wider view to my investment opportunities
when I grow old enough to invest.
Motivators- The agent used this picture to show the audience what she
means by investing in raw land. I found it because I know that land
represents power so I wanted to show a raw picture of unsettled land.

Why Select This Image? Land has always been a symbol of power in society.

What Does This Image State About Power? This image states that power is objective and that there is a sort of unit
of measurement for power.

Why Do You State So? During the feudal systems those who owned the land controlled everyone and everything
that went on, on their land.

How Does This Image Fit With The Others In Your Collection (if at all)? With land, the possibilities are endless. The
president is responsible for all the land that is the US and nothing can be achieved without land to do it on. After
all the Earth is a big ball of land.
