Decodable Book: A Fly on My Pie; y, ie /i/
Chart: List words that have y, ie /i/
Pose Question: If you were a bear?
SMART Board: Little Bear Lesson
9:00-10:00- On carpet
1. Introduce this weeks story
Give students clues about the animal in their story (have a bear hidden in a bag)
Have the students decode the title of the story- Write the title on the board and have
them guess the words as you write.
2. Show students the book box for this week- fiction and nonfiction books about bears
3. Introduce this weeks vocabulary words

4. Shared Reading of the story- Little Bears Friend
5. Take about phonic words in our story- /i/ y, ie
With large paper have the students come up with words with those sounds.
6. Decodable Books- A Fly on My Pie
Have students sit in a circle
As a class read through the story- ways to have them read all boys read, all girls read, one
girl reads, one boy reads, etc..
After reading the story go back through and talk about the words in the story were yand
ie make the I sound.
Have students go back to their tables and highlight those words.
7. Spelling Pre-Test
10:00-10:05- Bathroom Break
10:05-10:55- In front of SMART board.
1. Go through the SMART board lesson.
Spelling words- green and yellow groups
Adjectives and describing words
2. Handout worksheet on identifying the correct adjective or describing word. Go through the
first two questions with the students projecting it on the board. Give the students
independent work time.
3. When finished students should silent read to practice building stamina and fluency until
recess time.
DAY 2
9:00-10:00- On carpet
1. Shared reading- My Itsy Bitsy Bear Book
Discuss bears with the students to get them ready for SMART board lesson.
2. Review describing words and adjectives pg 12-13 on SMART board
3. Building background on the story (SMART Board)
Difference between real bears and make believe bears
4. Pose Question: If you were a bear.?
Have students give suggestion on what they will do. Write them down on the SMART
Board.
5. Hand- out to the students a worksheet with the question, If I were a bear?
Model the sentences with the students. Their first sentence should say, If I were a bear I
would (student will select what they want to write about). They should have three to
four sentences.
10:00-10:05- Bathroom Break
10:05-10:55- Bank Presentation- teaching students about money
