Curriculum Links This lesson is part of an Equations and +nequalities ,nit! *rior to
this lesson- students learned how to solve linear equations and inequalities- graph
equations and inequalities- and solve systems of equations algebraically! Throughout this
lesson- students will have to use their prior "nowledge of how to solve and graph
equations! )lso- students will lin" the three methods $substitution- elimination- and
graphing( of solving systems of equations in order to gain an understanding of solving
systems of equations! +n future lessons- students will need to use this "nowledge in order
to solve systems of inequalities graphically!
!"ecti#es
Students will be able to solve and graph an equation on the coordinate a.is!
Students will be able to solve and graph more than one equation on the coordinate a.is!
Students will be able to solve systems of equations using a graphing method!

$% minute( +ntroduction: The past few days- we learned what systems of equations are
and how to solve them using the methods of elimination and substitution! Today- we will
learn how to solve systems of equations graphically- and we will show our understanding
by annotating an image- using S"itch- of an e.ample of systems of equations!
$0 minutes( Do 9ow: Students will answer the Do 9ow question in their noteboo" and
then submit their answer using their cell phone by te.ting :&8;; and their message to
''888!
$' minutes( Go over Do 9ow: <nce all students have te.ted their answers- + will show
them how to correctly solve it and then show the poll everywhere board for students to
see the answers that were submitted!
$5 minutes( Guided 9otes pac"et: Students will fill in their guided notes pac"et as + go
over the notes on the Smart2oard!
$0 minutes( *artner *ractice: Students will wor" with a partner to complete the practice
problems provided in the guided notes pac"et!
$%0 minutes( S"itch: Students will have %0 minutes to create an image- using
http:33smartboards!typepad!com3smartboard3files3coordinates%!swf- of a coordinate a.is
showing an e.ample of systems of equations! Students will use S"itch to annotate and
e.plain the solution of the e.ample they found!
$' minutes( Students will print their S"itch images to hand in for a grade= the images will
be displayed around the room after they are graded!
$8 minutes( /onclusion: 9ow that we have learned how to solve systems of equations
using all three $substitution- elimination- and graphing( methods- we will review for the
unit test tomorrow! Ma"e sure to complete your homewor" assignment on deltamath!com
tonight- and come to class tomorrow prepared to review for the test!

E#aluation of t$e Lesson
<nce the students complete and hand in their annotated S"itch image- + will be able to see
if students met the ob@ectives for the lesson! Their S"itch image will show me whether or
not they can solve an equation for one variable- whether or not they can graph an
equation using the yintercept and slope- and whether or not they understand what a
solution to a system of equations loo"s li"e! + will be able to see if students connected
how to solve a system of equations with the fact that a solution is the point of intersection
of two linear equations! +n addition- + will be able to see if students can successfully use
technology to create linear equations on a coordinate grid and annotate that image to
e.plain the solution to the system of equations! +f students remain engaged throughout the
lesson and can smoothly use the technology involved without too many complications- +
will "now if the technology in this lesson was appropriate for the topics involved!
