Nanotechnology Nanotechnology can be defined as Engineering of Functional Systems at the molecular scale ranging from smaller than 1 micrometer,

normally 1 to 100 nanometers. It is about creating, manipulating and measuring extremely small things. Nanotechnology has its significant impact in almost all industries and in all areas of society. Two main approaches are commonly used in Nanotechnology. They are: Top-down approach In this approach, a bulk material is subjected to cutting or slicing in order to obtain nano sized particle. It involves lithographic patterning techniques using short-wavelength optical sources for fabrication. This approach is dominant in semiconductor manufacturing. Bottom-up approach It is the opposite of top-down approach. In this approach, molecular components are assembled together to form larger structures using principles of molecular recognition. It is required to process nano tubes and organic semiconductors. Benefits of Nanotechnology High speed performance Greater Computing Power Less material consumption
