Brittany DArienzo Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, it is my role to instill my students with the skills that they require to succeed in anything that they want to pursue. In harmony with the ideas of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardener, I will impart these skills to my students in numerous ways. I will fit these skills into my lessons by incorporating as many of the different intelligences as I can in order to reach every single one of my students. Whenever information is presented in my childhood math special education classroom, it will be presented in a way for every student to fully comprehend. May the student be a visual, auditory, tactile, or kinesthetic learner I will present all of my work in a way that every student will fully understand. This is so that they all have an equal opportunity to appreciate all of the concepts of mathematics or any other subject I teach in my childhood classroom. Differentiated instruction is key when students with special needs are in my classroom. Every student learns differently and in a classroom where a student with special needs is involved differentiated instruction is crucial to their learning. As a teacher I do not feel that my only role is to teach my students information on various subjects but I feel that it is my accountability to prepare students for the real world that they will face outside of my classroom. In order to obtain success in the real world I feel it is important for me to impart life skills on students. Skills such as the ability to learn a topic, analytically and creatively. Also to teach my students to be independent and that if they put all they can into their work they will be successful. My students will be able to make their own decisions and stand up for something that they

believe in. My students also will have a voice and an opinion. Students will participate in field trips and other activities that will give them the opportunity to express these skills. Students in my classroom will research and analyze important mathematical topics that are in correlation with common core. I will not teach to tests but will show my students how to use math in the real world making it fun and interesting. As a teacher, I understand that it is important to prepare and present my lessons based on the common core standards. In preparing my lessons I will make sure that all of my students will have an ability to understand the information that I am presenting to them. With proper planning I will be able to incorporate technology that my students are familiar with to heighten their learning. But, even then there still maybe students that do not fully comprehend a subject or concept. In cases like these I will regroup and reflect on my lesson in order to see what might have went incorrect, and in what way I will be able to get my student to understand and to improve. I believe that this concept will help me grow as a teacher. Education is not only something that takes place in a classroom but also takes place in the communities in which my students live and participate. With this knowledge I will have the community of the school district involved in my childhood math class. I will host Fundraisers and events that will help the community but also will be a wise use of math that the students will benefit from. There are many important factors of being a teacher, I hope to bring all I can to steer my students in the direction of success. In the words of Nelson Mandela Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
