UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: The Animals on a farm lesson is part of a unit covering living things. Identifying and describing different structures of familiar plants and animals as described in the TN state science standard S.PK.8 LESSON OBJECTIVE: Given pictures of farm animals, TLW match picture with word/name of animal with 100% accuracy. Given pictures of farm animals, TLW identify the animal sound word with 100% accuracy. Student participation: The goal of this lesson is for the student to demonstrate an understanding of farm animals and the sounds they make. Students will create a picture chart.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED: S.PK.8. Describe and identify the similarities, categories, and different structures of familiar plants and animals (Plants have roots, stems, leaves; animals have eyes, mouths, ears) ISTE Standard(s) 3. Research and Information Fluency; Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. c. Evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks

5. Pencil Technology Integration

Students will use the websites stated above as resources for the farm animals and access to images and the song Old McDonalds. Word processing software will be used to type, drag, cut, and paste images to the Animals on the Farm activity.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of each farm animal by matching picture and sounds words provided in a visual presentation. Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600. This lesson is a continuation of TN science standard S.PK.8. We will refer to the summary created here as we continue to explore animals. We will also use our outlines for a unit on creative writing. I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: Begin with playing the song Old McDonalds video on a large screen display, overhead, or whiteboard. Give students a few minutes to listen to the song; then have the class join in by adding animals of their choice. Procedures Prior to the Computer (10 minutes) Teacher Procedures: 1. After the Introduction, distribute the Animals on the Farm Sheets to students and ask them to briefly name the animals they see. What sounds do they make? At the Computer (35 minutes) Teacher Procedures: 1. Have students open Internet browser 2. Direct students to the YouTube website. 3. Direct students to the MS Clipart Gallery website 4. Direct Students to the C Drive file named Animals on the farm 5. Monitor and assist as needed Student Procedures: 1. Open Internet browser 2. Go to YouTube website watch the video/song 3. Have students to the c drive and open the file Animals on the farm 4. Click to open the document 5. Find an animal from video 6. Use pull-down menu to copy the image 7. Go to Picture cell in the Word document 8. Paste the Picture 9. Go to Animal sound in the Word Student Procedures: 1. Students will review animals on their sheet and the sounds they make.

Closure: Allow students to share with large group their animals and sounds. Lead the students in singing Old McDonalds on last time as the teacher collects work and ask questions. Class work will be displayed for parents and school community to enjoy.
