Jacob Mroczkiewicz EDCI 270 Project #1 Narrative April 30, 2014

Through the design and development of this website for the first, and subsequently last assignment to be submitted, I have learned the value of presenting information in an informative and visually appealing manner. By doing so, future students or fellow teachers can view my work in a singular domain and learn something about me in the process. I have also found that while this process may be deemed worthwhile, it is also one of considerable tedium and should not be taken lightly when it comes to the allotment of time. In the future, I think it would be a wonderful use of technology to construct a class website for my students. This website would include course materials, course syllabus, examples, homework, writing prompts, and anything else that my students may need. The fact that I am considering such a venture speaks to the affect that this project has had on me. This project can be adapted for many secondary classroom environments, I think. Students in my future classrooms could be instructed to post of their essays and creations on a website and then present as a final project portfolio, such as I am doing for this class. But such academic ventures are subject to certain limitations. For instance, technology is not always as easily accessible for high school students, particularly ones of low socioeconomic status, as it is for college students such as myself. A way around that could also be through allowing class days entirely devoted to the production of their portfolio. Also, a website portfolio assignment could

be adapted for other subject. For instance, a science teacher could have his or her students post all of their lab reports on an original website to gauge their findings throughout the duration of a semester. The possibilities are indeed vast. Admittedly, a greater amount of time is what would benefit my project the most. Due in the most hectic period of the semester, this project may have not received as much time allotted to it than my other course projects may have. But I remain confident that the work I have completed over the course of this semester in EDCI 270 will speak for itself. It just might not look as pretty as it could. Edgar Allan Poe never was one for such petty things though. The ISTE standards speak extensively about the pertinence of creating original products in ways that utilize current technologies and academic advancements. I would say that this project accomplishes that in a precise manner. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes. I applied my existing knowledge of the great 19th-century poet/author to generate fresh ideas regarding the instruction of his lifes works. That is the Holy Grail, and that is what I feel I have accomplished.
