July 16, 2013 Letter of Reference for Amelia Kerton I am very pleased to recommend Amelia Kerton to you as a candidate

for a teaching position in your district or school. I have known Amelia for several years, and she has been a very strong student in three of my classes, including an American literature survey class and two seminars, one focusing on the writings and life of the American novelist Willa Cather and the other on the tradition of lyric poetry. First, I would say that Amelia is a mature, steady, dependable person. I have never seen her flustered of anxious. She attends class consistently and on time, completes her work carefully, and is eager to do good work. Second, I would offer that Amelia is well-prepared to teach English and/or Language Arts at the high school or junior high school level. Our English curriculum at Hillsdale College features a solid grounding in the literary tradition from the Ancient World to the present day, with a very strong emphasis on writing and close reading. Amelia has distinguished herself in my classes, and I am sure she would do very well in helping her students to develop as competent and even superior readers and writers. Finally, I would affirm my belief that Amelia would be an excellent colleague and member of your instructional team. She has worked very well with other students in my classes. She does not grandstand or show off, and she is very supportive of the creative and academic efforts of others. I encourage you to give Amelia your highest consideration for a teaching position. If I may answer any questions, please feel most welcome to call me at home, (517)4372011. Thank you most sincerely for your interest in Amelias candidacy. Sincerely yours, Christopher S. Busch, Ph. D. Professor of English
