Adjective Self-Portraits

Learning Objective: After reviewing the various functions of adjectives (describing how things look, taste, smell, feel, and sound), the children will think of different adjectives to describe themselves and further create Adjective Self-Portraits. Alignment with Standards: Common Core ELA Standards o Language Standards K-5: Conventions of Standard English L.2.1e: Use adjectives and adverbs, and choose between them depending on what is to be modified. Developmental Appropriateness: In the previous lessons, the students learned how to identify adjectives in a sentence that told about how things looked, tasted, smelled, felt, and sounded. In order to conclude this unit of focusing on the function of adjectives, the children will create Adjective Self-Portraits containing different adjectives that accurately describe themselves. Once finished, each child will be given the opportunity to present their self-portraits to the class by saying, My name is and I am Assessment of the Objective:
Lesson Objective After reviewing the various functions of adjectives (describing how things look, taste, smell, feel, and sound), the children will think of different adjectives to describe themselves and further create Adjective Self-Portraits. Assessment of the Objective Pre: Children will watch a short video about adjectives. In order to acquire my students prior knowledge, I will then ask them review questions regarding the various functions of adjectives. Students responses to my questions will be recorded on a checklist I have created. During: Utilizing information I have placed on chart paper, I will conduct a quick review session with the students about adjectives while they are gathered on the carpet. I will review how adjectives describe how things look, taste, smell, feel, and sound. Post: Children will create Use of Formative Assessment Pre: Anecdotal checklist of students responses to review questions- will indicate childrens background knowledge of the functions of adjectives During: Teacher observation of students involvement during chart paper review- will determine students ability to recognize adjectives when placed in a sentence - will identify the extent of the childrens participation in the chart paper review Post: Childrens Adjective SelfPortraits- will indicate whether or not students were
