Collaborative Grading Event Application

Content teams electing to participate in a collaborative grading event will come together for a facilitated event, during which they will calibrate on the rubric and score student work products with colleagues. Through this process, students will receive objective scores, and teachers will increase their alignment and consistency. Teams interested in participating must submit this application and e-mail a copy of the assignment they will administer and rubric they will use to evaluate it to XXX no later than August 31st close of business. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS A minimum of three (3) members on each team All teachers on the team must administer common writing assignment; guidance advisors, department chairs, or administrators may be on a team without having given the assessment to students The assignment must be complete at least five (5) days prior to the scheduled grading event Team leaders must submit five samples at varying levels to Susan Carmody no later than five (5) days prior to the grading event Team members commit to the full 1.5 hour collaborative grading event Teams must submit the assignment and rubric in addition to this application by Aug. 31st at 5 PM QUALIFYING ASSIGNMENTS Assignment must require a written response of at least one (1) paragraph Assignments must be evaluated using a common rubric that meets the criteria below RUBRIC CRITERIA May be holistic or analytical Must have at least four (4) performance levels Must evaluate at least three (3) aspects of the assignment (e.g., content, organization, and sentence fluency; or causes, effect, and visual aid) At least one (1) of the aspects must relate to quality of writing (e.g., conventions, sentence fluency, organization of ideas, etc.)

Note: Depending on the number of assignments and team members, all assignments will not necessarily be graded within the 1.5 hour timeframe. While not required, teams will be encouraged to continue grading colleagues students assignments. The facilitator will provide suggestions for teams choosing to continue grading beyond the event at the conclusion of the event.
