It will also be the reflection paper you print and hand into me at the end of the semester. It is required that this be submitted prior to the end of the semester, so please print the confirmation page to be handed in on April 18th along with a printout of your answers. https://www.tamu-commerce.edu/teacher/efe/efe_observ_reflec.asp 1. Describe the classroom(s) you observed with regard to student engagement, learning environment, and teacher-student interaction. The grade that I observe is second grade. The classroom was arranged facing the smart board, which is located on the front of the classroom. There are a total of nineteen students, but the classroom has twenty desks and four of the desks are form together like a big table to form a group. So there are four groups in the class, each group is four students except for one group which has three. In the middle of each group desk is a basket. The basket is use for the teacher to put in assignment, homework, crayons, pencil, and other material. All the desks are in the middle of the classroom facing the smart board. One the left side of the classroom is the teachers desk. The teacher desk has a computer and on the same side next to the teachers desk is also where the students computer are located. They are four student computer in the classroom. On the side of each student computer is a list of four students names in each group and reading level for that student so they can find a book that matches their reading level and take a test for that book in the computer. Also the computers are a part of the learning center. Learning center is where the teacher set each group apart and have them work on different areas like the computer, the ipad which they can do math and reading, play with clay or color, or work with teacher on a lesson she has for that group. Next to the teachers desk is a table in which the group works on the lesson that the teacher provide, it can be math, reading, social studies, or science. On the walls, were posters, like reading is fun and also I saw poster of different types of reading. Then, I saw math poster like adding, subtracting, multiply, and divided, and then I saw the classroom rules in the front of the class next to the smart board. The teacher is very nice and firm to the students. Also, I found that the students respect their teacher. The students know what to do when they get in to classroom in the morning which is sit down in their seat and does their math work. The teacher has everything organize and ready for the students. The teacher wants the student to be active learners. In any lesson the teacher get the student involve, like read out aloud to the class, or answer a question to a math problem. These are some things that I observe in this 2nd grade classroom. 2. Describe the overall classroom management style practiced by the teacher. Did you find the management style conducive to learning? Did you observe the students being responsible for their actions? Describe how interruptions were handled by the teacher and by the students. The discipline management plan has seven parts to it which is star student, way to go, excellent effort, ready to learn, make better choices, no recess, and parent contact. Each student in the

morning is put in the ready to learn spot and as the day goes on they get move up or down. The ones that get move down first its a warning which mean make better choices. Then, if the problem continues it move down to no recess which mean the student will not get recess that day. Lastly, if the problem continues then it move down again to parent contact which a parent will be inform on their childs behavior. I also found a posters which said raise your hand to talk, face forward, eyes watching, mouths wait to talk, ears listening, hand in your lap, and leg crisscross applesauce. Only, a couple for times the students were acting out by taking loudly and not being quiet, the teacher stand up out of her seat and went to the front of the class. She told them that if they continue this behavior the student will not play at recess and they have to do book work. The students were silent afterwards. Another time, was when a student was standing up out of his seat and when up to the teachers while doing a lesson, she told him that he cannot come up her when she is taking and them she told him to back to his a raise his hand a wait for her to called on him. The teachers discipline management plan was very effective and easy to follow. 3. Describe the practices you observed that were designed to assist students who required additional instructional strategies including English Second Language, Limited English proficient, and students with learning disabilities. Did the practices appear to increase student learning and achievement? If so, how?

There were three students that I observe that I found interesting especially in the classroom. In math, they were learning adding and subtracting word problems. The students are giving a math lesson in the morning that for practice and if they have any questions they can ask the teacher for help. One of the Spanish speaking students has a little trouble with word problems which the teacher sends that student to ESL so they can help him by translating the problem. The student does not have any problems with math just the reading part because some words he doesnt understand. In science, the teacher gives the student a book about the animal in the desert, which explains the different animals that are in the desert and why they have to live in the desert. Also, this covers reading assignments because in the book it has there spelling words which the student will be tested on Fridays. The phonics that I seen was when the one of students couldnt spell one of the weekly spelling words which is rattle. This student was also born in Mexico and she can read in English but has trouble spelling a few words. The teacher made that student sound the word rat tle, that help the student learn to sound out the word and spell it. Lastly, in social studies they learn who is the president, vice president, and mayor of Ennis. In their center time, the teacher gets to work with the students in small groups. With smaller group this lets the teacher work with the student better by working more one on one. This is good for the Spanish speaking students. They are two Spanish speaking students, they are group with another student that has a difficult time reading. In center time, the teacher does running record on the students to see what they are having problem on. Them, the teacher gives them reading lessons, and the Spanish speaking students can either read in the classroom or can go to ESL which in their other teacher can also help the students in reading like translating. Also, with the third student that has a little trouble reading in general, The teacher help that student by break the words apart and sounding them out, also the third gets extra reading assignment which is a book and that child has to read that book at home so it can help

the child with his reading. Extra assistance that the two Spanish speaking student use is ESL because they both where born in Mexico, English is there second language , and has a hard time with their school assignments because they have a hard time understand it. After the Spanish speaking students and the student that has problems reading receive the extra help they are able to go along with the rest of the class just fine. The class diversity, but mostly its Hispanic student, and a few Caucasian students but they can all work together just fine.

4. Describe strengths and weaknesses of the classroom(s) you observed along with practices you will do differently. I like the way the teacher had everything ready and organize for the students. Everything was so structure in the classroom that there was little interruptions from the students expect for the one I discuss earlier. In the reading center, I notice that when the teacher let two students from the group read to themselves at the same time she was also working with two other students in the same group. The table is small and you can hear what the other two students are reading. I think I would have send the two students the where reading to themselves back to their desk. The reason why is because I couldnt understand what the teacher was saying to the two other students that were also in the same table. Also, I would have asked all the students in the group to read along with me. The reason why I would change this is because I felt that there was too much going on between, the two students that were reading to themselves and the two other students that were listening to the teacher. If I was a teacher I wouldnt do it that way because I want to be focus one thing and not have everything going on at the same.
