Secondary English English Introduction to Literature Early 1900s Literature The Great Gatsby Print: Book (The Great Gatsby) Non-Print: Popplet; Photos accessed via the Internet Nebraska Language Arts Standards (Grade 12) - Standard 12.1.6: Comprehension: Students will extract and construct meaning using prior knowledge, applying text information, and monitoring comprehension while reading grade level text. This project aims to teach students the fundamentals of critical analysis as well as thinking about the historical nature of The Great Gatsby. Additionally, students will utilize the Popplet website to diversify the elements in which they present their understanding of the literature. By using technology in an innovative way, students will be able to think more critically and creatively about the contents of the assignment, and apply them accordingly. The students will also use the project for a general overview of the text before an exam or written report/paper. Students will need access to either a laptop or a desktop computer. Students then need to go to Popplet.com. Students also should have quick access to their book for research, as well as any notes covering the reading that they found to be fundamental to the novel. Objective 1: Students will understand and be able to describe the progression of the storyline within The Great Gatsby. Objective 2: Students will learn to look critically into character development, progression of plot, and and the role that setting plays within the novel. Objective 3: Students will gain basic knowledge of Popplet, as well as an effective strategy in combining the literature with the website. Objective 4: This assignment will serve as a tool for review that effectively prepares students for an exam or written report/paper about The Great Gatsby. In preparation for this lesson, students will need to have read the entire novel as well as gained a basic understanding of the plot, characters, and setting. They will also need to been provided with basic knowledge of how to operate Popplet. Students will be learning through five of the levels of Blooms Taxonomy: 1. Remember: Students will be asked to recall the story of The Great Gatsby 2. Understand: Students will understand the plot and the connections between each of the characters. 3. Apply: Students will be required to illustrate a knowledge of the book and all of the key components through the utilization of Popplet. 4. Analyze: Students will analyze the key components of the novel as it pertains to their foci: i.e. if they are creating a Popplet centered on character description, they should focus on the development of the main characters.

5. Create: Students must now use this information to create a Popplet of their own. 1. Students will log into Popplet and create an account 2. Students will make a Popplet sequence in groups pertaining to a specific aspect of the novel (i.e. characters, plot, setting, etc.) 3. These will become presentations that they will share with the class. Success in this project will be measured by how well they share knowledge of the novel through the utilization of Popplet. Student success will also be evaluated through the applicability of their presentations. Additionally, they will be graded based on each group's attention to detail, neatness and aesthetic appeal of their visual aids, the flow/continuity of the presentation itself, and their expansion beyond the basic points outlined within their Popplet.
