Teaching in the 21st century involves


using a range of teaching strategies viewing the teacher as the sole authority working collaboratively, grouping and regrouping students for a variety of learning situations focusing on what students do not know using only a limited set of teaching strategies using teaching strategies that are suitable for one level of ability viewing students as thinkers with developing ideas of the world building on what students know (constructivism) using only one grouping strategy using a variety of resources that show a variety of perspectives teaching about responsibility and the need for action by others viewing students as passive recipients a teacher-directed focus on rigid objectives empowering students to feel responsible and to take action using only one teaching resource from one culture involving students actively in their own learning engaging students in open-ended inquiry and real-life investigations awareness of the language needs of those learning in a language other than a mother tongue using teaching strategies that are suitable only for those learning in their mother tongue addressing the needs of students with different levels and types of ability.
