Type PM, 38-72.

5 kV, up to 40 kA Power Circuit Breaker

Standard features - Dead tank design, with one self-blast interrupter per tank on a galvanized steel frame - All tanks factory leak tested in a hard-vacuum chamber with a helium mass spectrometer - Certied per ANSI C37.04, C37.06, and C37.09 Standards - FSA-2 motor charged spring operating mechanism - Frame mounted NEMA-3R steel control cabinet protected with TGIC polyester powdercoat nish - Single tank-mounted gas density monitor and pressure gauge - Porcelain bushings - Continuous current ratings through 3000 A - Ships fully assembled and factory tested with 5 psig SF6 gas Options and accessories - Condition monitoring with the Circuit Breaker Sentinel (CBS) - Density monitor and temperature-compensated pressure gauge directly-mounted on each tank - Extra creep and/or extra strike bushings for special applications - Silicone rubber composite bushings - Tank heaters for operation in ambient temperatures below -40C - High seismic designs - National Board certication of interrupter tanks per the ASME Pressure Vessel and Boiler Code

With a large installed base and proven track record, the PM breaker offers unequalled performance and reliability. ABB advantages - Interrupting performance up to 40 kA - High performance interrupters for denite purpose breaker reduce potential for overvoltages caused by restrikes during capacitor bank switching - One-piece interrupter assembly simplies eld change-out whenever end of life is reached by eliminating need for internal tank mounting of separate parts and alignment - Simple, low powered motor-charged spring mechanism imparts minimal mechanical stress to the breaker, reducing maintenance costs - Externally accessible current transformers enable simple eld change-out without degassing breaker and bushing removal - Extensive range of available eld services, from technical assistance to turn-key installation, can dramatically reduce construction costs and speed time to commercial operation - Suitable for cold weather operation down to -40C ambient without tank heaters, saving acquisition as well as operating costs

FSA-2 mechanism The type FSA-2 spring mechanism, mounted within the breaker control cabinet, provides the driving force to gang-operate the breakers self-blast interrupters. Mechanical energy for closing is stored in a pair of helical springs, whose charge is maintained by a universal motor. Each closing operation simultaneously charges a similar pair of trip springs. The mechanism is simple and relatively low powered, resulting in minimal mechanical stresses during breaker operation and lower overall maintenance costs.
