IDAHO CORE TEACHER STANDARDS AND THE DANIELSON FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING.

By David G. Estes

The Purpose and Goals

Both Idaho Core Teacher Standards and the Danielson Framework for Teaching, are to ensure the best effective measures are being taken to ensure developing students are receiving the most productive education. Both Idaho Core Teacher Standards and the Danielson Framework for Teaching, provide expectations for teachers to meet by given them the goals to meet and the framework/means to achieve it. The Idaho Core Teacher Standards defines the goals. The Danielson Framework for Teaching is the framework/means.

Idaho Core Teacher Standards

The new standards are based on the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) model. These standards reflect a move to "performance-based" standards, meaning a candidate is recommended for initial certification based on the demonstration of what they know and are able to do.

Idaho Core Teacher Standards

Danielson Framework for Teaching.

The Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching elements overlap with the INTASC standards and reflect many of the elements in the other frameworks, with the exception of explicit mention of building personal relationships with students (as in the Saphier and Marzano frameworks) and working relentlessly (as in the TAL framework).

Danielson Framework for Teaching.

The Framework for Teaching is a research-based set of components of instruction, aligned to the INTASC standards, and grounded in a constructivist view of learning and teaching. The complex activity of teaching is divided into 22 components (and 76 smaller elements) clustered into four domains of teaching responsibility:

Overview
Idaho Core Teacher Standards and the Danielson Framework for Teaching work hand in hand to create an effective Idaho teaching environment that is based on active engagement of critical thinking. Students using deep conceptual understanding with critical thinking and reasoning, to take a position and support with logic and evidence. Teachers and students no longer teach and learn to just pass tests or achieve just a grade for a one time moment, but rather they teach and learn essential concepts and skills that stay with them for a lifetime.
