How has Milton Bennetts Model of Intercultural Sensitivity help you understand ways in which we can improve our skills in communicating, dealing and respecting others from different cultures? How have you, yourself evolved in the DMIS scale through your participation, readings, lms, discussions in class? !
Everyone is valid. Everyone has feelings, values and views that come into conict with anothers. Some people are unaccepting and intolerant of other people through their race, religion, orientation and gender. Such is the case with people who are in the phases of Denial of difference and Defense of Difference. " Others are more accepting but stay ignorant to differences as in the Minimization of difference. This can make them seem as racist as the rst two. As they think that their communication and ways of doing things are sufcient. Not knowing if they are offending the person they are trying to communicate with. " People in the phase of Acceptance of difference, Adaption to Difference and Integration of Difference are what would be the goal of getting the whole world to. People who are accepting willing to learn and celebrate, respect and embrace differences. I saw on the news the other day that the Human Barbie Doll Valeria Lukynova said that the human race and beauty was being degenerated because races were mixing making less beautiful humans. We can not exist in peace with these types of ideals. It is these differences and the blending of different things that create something beautiful Life is beautiful."

I believe I have always been a very adaptive person. I am of French and Chinese origin. I am both american and Chinese. I am a rst generation american on my fathers side. I see the racism, I see the I love to be immersed in the beauty of others culture weather it be learning about the gods of Hinduism to customs of a native Berliner. I enjoy difference I love culture I am not Mother Theresa or anything. I am not perfect but I don't consider myself to be better than anyone else just based on the color of their skin or holidays they celebrate or who they pray to. I Judge these things based on a content of a persons character. I do my best to surround myself around like minded persons. "

How did your participation in this class help you better understand your civil rights and the responsibilities of citizens in your community, your country and the world?!
It helped me realize that people really dont know what happens in their own country let alone the world. We are responsible for the future youth to educate them on difference of culture and the equality of everyone. Ignorance is not necessarily a bad thing it just means that a person doesnt know. People are afraid of what they don't know so by breaking down those walls we can make our country a better place. " I know I have the civil right to be happy I know that in America I have a lot of rights that many outside of the US don't but I think it is the responsibility of every american to know that just because they have rights doesn't give them a right to be ignorant to the suffering of others. " I know that it is my responsibility to educate my future children and to teach them to embrace difference in culture. My children will not be ignorant my children will learn different languages not just english, they will befriend the new kid on the playground that is scared and is from another country. Through the education of the new we can get rid of the crooked concepts of the old. "

People are people no matter the situation. We all struggle we all face indifference and prejudice. The struggle that these people are willing to go through in order to achieve a dream of a better life of their families is astonishing. The sacrice and the loss they feel as they leave everything they know to make a buck, be able to educate their children and to send some money home for their aging families back home. " Its not easy and I have respect for the people who take that chance and make those sacrice for their families. My family did it. Everyones family did it weather it was hundreds of years ago or just yesterday.
