I have stressed this fact in my many articles in ‘The Indian Astrological Journal” as well as in ‘‘ The Astrological Magazine ” (Bangalore). Apart from the accepted facts relating to the Nodes there has been in Aryan India and Lanka, about B.C. 5000, a systematized knowledge relating to the magnetic field between the Sun, Earth and the Moon. One could say that the Earth is a vast magnet, The Sun and Moon conspire to produce a tide on our globe by attracting towards themselves that portion of our terra- firma in line with them. The rays of the Sun beat upon the Earth and the Moon from above Consequently electrons driven out from the Moon's surface hurtle towards the Earth depressing elect- rical layers Thé longest wave-length among the Sun-rays is only 1/33rd of a centimetre—technically called infra-red. The ultra-violet ray is still shorter and has the power to strip an atom of its planetary electrons, The Moon which isa reflector has 1/6th the gravitational pull of the Earth. It has been noticed that immediately arter a lunar eclipse electronic layers are lowered and radio waves are disturbed. The Sun’s influence on the Earth is clearly proved during sunspet activity. | Varahamihira states :- ‘When the spots appear or-the solar’ disc the waters (of the Oceans) will get disturbed ; the sky will be filled with dust ; high winds capable of breaking down the tops of mountains and of trees, will carry pebbles and sand along their course, The trees willfail to yield ia their appropriate seasons ; birds and animals will appear to be burnin} there will be an appearance of false fire all round (the Sun); 2 and lightnifig and earthquakes will afflict mankind,” (The Brhat-Samhita—Vol, [., Chap, IIl., vv. 91). The ancient Hindu physicists—the 18 Righis—not pnly understood the electronic irtteraction between the Sun, Moon and the Earth but ‘also discovered that the move- ment of the Ascending Node created a gravitational pull between the Earth and the Moon at set periods of the day on the one hand and maintained an electronic tide between the Sun and the Earth on the other, The first_was called Rahu-Pimma and the second, Yuma-Pimma and Yama-Kula, The complete Laws relating to these astronomico-astrolo- gical principles were kept absolutely secret and handed down from master to pupil down the ages. Parts of the latter section were employed in planetary worship and Ppropitiations (Bali ceremonies), magical rites and the treatment of diseases. We are informed® that this wonderful system of Astrology was given to man by Sri Maha Vishnu. When the Assura-war was on he found that the Assuras could not be vanquished, 50 he enered the Sakra-Bhavana and took the Three Golden Books of Maha Brahma and, after breaking the three golden szals, looked into them, and found all the necessary information that would help in the defeat of the Assuras. Whatever power the predominantly benefic yogas may exercise in a horoscope, if the advent had occurred at a moment when the Rahu-Yama electromagnetic field was in an adverse state. in a particular sector of the fixed Star Belt, composed of 28 asterisms, then that chart was subject to a subtle retardation and the Yogas rendered weak or neutralised, Hence we find beggars with Raja Yogas. Again an auspicious moment (muhurtha) selected €or a wedding can become extremely eadly by virtue of a malignant Rahu-magnetic wave which créeps in and annuls the judgment of the professional astrologer who tnerely concentrated on astertaining certain doshas menitioned in standard works on *Electional, Astrology. Thé following i8 a good example taken from ‘The Ceylon Daily News” of January 23, 1957 :— 3 BRIDE AMONG 20 DEAD “The wedding of Kandiah and Pakkiam took place at the Puligr Kovil, Kandy, on Monday (2Ist) evening. The ceremony was over at 8 p m., and the couple and thei. guests went to. Pakiam’s house on Hindagala Roud off tne main Galaha Road, tor dinner. [hey arrived there at 10pm. The wedding guesis hid taken ovly a few mouthfuls when the fire broke out. ” The Rahu-Pimma shows that on a Monday the 13th asterism (Hastha) is in eclipse at this hour and should not have been selected for a wedding feast. ‘Neptune a ree ~ Jupiter Saturn 1 12-—~ Uranus Rabu _ a I &B sYenus Ascendant r 1180 - rats 327 10 J--—-- g- —— Sun a a 7 Mrs LL. Consequently good turns into bad Naturally Asrology comes a cropper at such times not because the science was at fault but because the interpreter was ill-equipped. The fault is therefore not in our stars but in ourselves that we are found defi- cient in our judgments. I believe that a complete exposition of the Three Golden Books of Maha Brahma as given to the world by Sri Maha Vishnu will be more than useful to every student and practitioner of the astrological science. Cyrus D.F. Abayakoon “Laurels” 18, Pepin Lane Colombo 4 (Ceylon) July 15, 1957. CHAPTER I Sign-Posts Explained WESTERN astrologers following the foot-steps of Chaldean and Moor occultists place much store on Pars Fortuna as an indicator of luck. Phis subtle force depends. on the distance between the Sun and the Moon as well as the distance in degrees between the horizon and the Point of Gravity called Part of Fortune. Hindu calculations take’ cognizance of Mandi or Gulika, Ardhapraharana, Yamakanda, Kalamurta, Dhuma, Vyathipatha, Parigha, Indradhanu’ and Upakethu, These are very vital electro- magnetic states which influence us but the greatest is Rahu-Pimma as it rules the 28 asterisms. To reach an ubknown destination, a student, like a traveller, has to locate the siga-posts” and ascertain his, 2 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA whereabouts. Otherwise he will be lost in the sea of knowledge which only a Rishi can cross, The student may or my not have heard of the Rahu-Paksha, It means that from the point where Rahu stays certain asterisms are Jeeva, Murthyu, Karthari or Grasthe. As a rule the 25th star is Karthari, the 12th is Grasthe ; the 13th to the 22nd (including Abhijit, 22A) are Murthyu and those from 26th to .the 11th are Jeeva, The latter is a terminology for Life, and Murthyu means Death, In the example given in the Introduction, Hastha (13th) was deadly or death-dealing. The next important sign-post is to ascertain Rahu’s peekly directional strength as per the Compass-Chart low :— SIGN-POSTS EXPLAINED +3 The planetary symbols indicate the directiénal ruler- ship of the luminares, planets, nodes on the -given- week-day ; Jupiter being powerful in any direction on any day ‘being the largest planet and a benefie by nature, (2) Regardless of week-day these same bodies rule the said directions as a fixed characteristic, Rahu’s natural point is SW and Kethu’'s NE, In the Rahu-Pimma there is this important fact : on the week-days shown in the directional chart Rahu has a special power, e.g , on a Friday its power is in the South. If the.A-Node happens to be in close proximity to an incendiary like Mars with dig-bala in the South you would naturally stop to ascertain the tranquility or other- wise of the magnetic state at that time. I said that Rahu has inherent power in the South-West puint. You should know the d&wning directions each day as under. The symbols stand for the lord of the day. ow 4 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA Each Jay, after dawn, Rahu occupies its starting direction for 14 hours (clock-time) and then shifts on to pees point of the compass, [Follow the classification low, RAIIU’S DAILY DIRECTION4L MOVEMENT (From sunrise to sunset, Repeat from sunset to sunrise) — a“ ee = ia ee fa le DAY 6.00 £017 30t0 9.00 0 38 | 85 {1 202050020 /430 20 [739 1900 10 30 34 49 300 | 430 | 600 Sun [yw |s [xe w se |N Mon |sw |e Tue | N [SW Sat s NEC Figuratively speaking Rahu and Kethu possess heads. Rahu’s head 1s the gargoyle—mak .rahata—which_swall ows up, like ar Assura, the Ahnocent Aryans of Saurashtra Desha. In the gncient days picturesque language helped students to fix cefun astrological laws m their minds So when we read of the head and mouth of Rahu or Kethu, think of the snakes and ladders gam», If some yoga gets into the mouth or head points the owner of the horoscope will be just sided dowa by Maha Brahma for some crime SIGN-POSTS EXPLAINED 5 committed in a past birth. You cannot escape the evér- watchful eye of the Supreme God. But He gives Wise Men the understanding to learn the ordinances of heaven and their domjnion thereof on the earth. So we divide the Solar year into four sections ‘‘in order that the 10-planet influences could be ascertained” when they are in the head of Rahu and Kethu. THE FOUR DIVISIONS Sun in Pisces, Aries, Taurus: Rahu’s head is to the West ; Kethu’s to the East, Sun in Gemini, Cancer, Leo: Rahu’s head is to the North ; Kethu’s to the South. Sun in Virgo, Libra, Scorpio: Rahu’s head is to the East ; Kethu’s to the West. Sun in Sagittarius, Capri. Rahu's head is to the corn, Aquarius : South ; Kethu’s to the North. In the example horoscope you will notice that Kethu’s head was tothe North. The result was that the evils of a bad nakshatra were heightened and Kethu swallowed up the bride, bridegroom and 18 of the* bridal party represented by Venus and Mercury in Sagittarius, 4th House, Using Rahu-Kethu you must check up the strength of a horoscope, either birth or electional, so that a proper estirfate could be arrived at. It is significant that the ancient Hindas first set about to find the weak ‘points so that the godd can look after itself, In our day, people search for the good and forget to control the bad. Flattering astrologers of the cheap professional type and fortune-tellers with a bazaar-jumblg of facts get caught in their own web of ignorance and the Royal science of Astrology is brought down to the gutter. 6 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA There is another important sign-post and that concerns the Sun, the hour-hand of Brahma’s three-dimensional control of the Universe. The strength of the Sun is dpendent on its directional position ruling man, cattle, birds, vege- tation, creepers, mountains, rivers and ocean§. Its journey commences at 3°00 A.M., and moves in the eight directions in 3-3 hours showing the past, present and the future. Many persons whos use the “Indra-Gurulla” and “Pancha-Paksha” for speculative purposes get puzzled and discouraged because the systems in vogue. have omitted the above Key. When you reat in the ‘tRabu- Pimma” and “Yama-Kala’” that either Ah-kara, Ee-kara,” 8 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA Eh-kara or @h-kara is victorious you have to remember that either the Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn power is predominant on the good side, PANCHA-MAHA-KALA This sign-post helps you to know the five-fold division of Time, used_by the Sinhala-Hindu astronomers of the 6th century B, C.,—a vital section in the understanding of the “Rahu-Pimma” and indicates the auspiciousness or otherwise of the period selected for any enterprise. Classification, (1) Maheswara: Represents Mars and the Lord of the East. When in the South (right) section of the Bahava-Chakra its colour is gold In the North (left), black. In its own time, gold (AH-kara) wins, Black (OH-kara) is defeated, (2) Kal-Kala: Stands for Mercury—Lord of the North. When to the North (left) of the Bhava-Chakra its colour is shining black like that of the crow. CHAPTER II Rahu Pimma Nakshatras {n this System, apart from the daily directional move- ment of Rahu, there is a Leap Cycle which begins on a Sunday, The electro-magnetic current starts from Ardha star. The four main jumps are completed in 30 Hindu hours or 12 hours of daylight (Western). The Cycle SUNDAY CYCLE* ©The numbers repgesent’ the asterisms. 22A is Abhijit. Sinhala hours have been converted to English time—thus 1} hours mean clock time and not on the 24 thinute scale, 12 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA repéats during the hours of darkness as well, again fron Ardha, The’ purpose of the Rahu Pimma originator was to help you to know whether Rahu’s current is “ecfipsing” the Moon placed in a particular asterism on a given day and time, ‘‘Rahu tries to suck the life out of the Moon, even so she is victorious.” This points to the fact that the “eclipse” lasts for only a very short time. The affliction ceases when the current jumps out of that particular star occupied by the Moon and that Rahu “eclipse” time should not be taken for a wedding or some other auspi- cious event. THE LEAPS (1) Ist Pimma : (a) Ardha (6) to Krittika (3) 3 Hours (b) Krittika to Revati (28 2nd Pimma : (a) Revati (28) to Satabisha (24) 3 Hours (b) Satabisha to Abhijit (22A) 3rd Pimma : (a) Abhijit to Moola (19) and 3 Hours Visakha (16) (b) Visakha to Hastha (13) and Magha (10) 4th Pimma : (a) Magha to Punarvasu (7) 3 Hours (b) Punarvasu to Magha (10) and back to Ardha (6) Explanation: On_a Sunday, as the Sun rises in the East (roughly 6 A.M.) the electronic tide is in the meridian at Ardha (6), the natural, position of the nak- shatra whatever the temporal (tathkalika) star.may be tat fas dominion on the day selected. ‘ The magnetic force passes to Krittika (3) taking 1} hours. Next motion is to Revati (28). Here the Rahu electro-magnetic current stays for 14 hours. Thus the three hours of daylight are cofopleted. The time will be about 9°00 AM. and the area influenced—IQth to the 9th bhava of a horoscope chakra, RAHU PIMMA NAKSHATRAS 3 The next jump of the magnetic wave is to Satabisha (24)—cusp of the 7th House. At 10 30 A.M. the power is transferred to Abhijit (22A), composed of the 4th pada of Uttarashada and the Ist pada of Shravana. This point is the 6th in a Chakra. Rahu rules till 12 noon, You wil] notice that when the Sun is climbing towards ee the Rahu-Earth force 1s declining to the nadir. Noon sees Moola (19) having the current for 1} hours. At about | 30 P, M. it shifts on to Visakha (16)—the 3rd cusp point. Visakha absorbs the current for 45 minutes— till 245 P. M.—the next move being to Hastha (13) where it rematns till 3 P_M. From here the electronic tide shifts on to Magha (10) and activates the point till 4 30 P. M. Punarvasu (7) 1s the next station—the house of Rahu till 6 , when it reverses back to Magha as the Sun sets in the West—the Lagna area in acchart. The current travels to the meridian at lightning speed and charges Ardha star to begin its second cycle during the hours of darkness. In the four principal directions there are four nak- shatras and i the sub-directions three, These groupings contain the ‘28 fixed stars. Whenever the current comes to occupy a star placed at a parlicular point, the asterisms in the group not mentioned in the jumos are vedha or seen and are best avoided. On a Sunday when the current is im Ardha the vedha stars are Mrigas'rsha, Rohini and Knittika in reverse order, Always the outside star gets the vedha-drishti more than the two or one in the middle. Hence the middle one is to be preferred to the outside «ne if a good time is asked in a hurry. This vedha system, I should say, is far in advance of the one given in tae “Sarvatho Bhadra-Chakraya” because there you have to ascertain the vama (left), dakshina (right) and sammukha (adjacent or facing) vedha, If Rahu current is in Ardha, the left would he Hastha, the right would be Uttara- Bhadra and the facing would be Purvashada. In the Rahu-Pimme the vedha selection is automatic, RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA MONDAY CYCLE THE LEAPS (2) {st Pimmas (a) Revati (27) to Satabisha (24) fours 2nd Pimma : Satabisha to Abhijit (22A) 3 Hours 3rd Pimma : Abhijit via Méola (19)sto 3 Hourg Vigakha (16) 4h Pimma: Visakha to Magha (10) and Punar, 3 Hours vasu (7) (b) Punarvasu to,Rohini (4) 20 Afhwini (1) and back to Revati. Explanation: On a Monday’ as the ‘sun rises the RAHU PIMMA N\KSHATRAS . 1S Rabu current is located in Revati (27). From here it moves very slowly to Satabisha (24), taking’three hours ‘o complete the transmission. Rahu has moved from SW ‘o E and the area influenced by the movement is from the 9th to the 7th in a Bhava-Chakra. Having come to Satabisha the current maintains its slow reverse passage and enters Abhijit (22A). The 7th house point receives a thorough good charge of the electro-magnetic force. Sun has moved on to the meridian and Rahu has shifted to S point. Thus Sun/Rahu are located in one direction and the current 90 degrees away—two important factors in estimating the good or bad in a horoscope cast for the times From Abhijit the magnetic wave passes through Moola (19)—1} hours—and remains in Visakha (16). When it is ready to shift out it will be 3 P. M. Now Rahu is exactly in the West, 90 degrees from the North point. The current then enters Magha (10), stays there for 45 minutes and begins to charge Punarvasu (17) for the next 45 minutes. It emerges out from it and activates Rohini (4) for 45 minutes and then controls Ashwini (1) for a similar period of time. The sun is setting in the West, Rahu has moved to N point and the current flows back to Revati to begin'the Second Cycle, till sunrise on Tuesday. (Note: On January 21, 1957 at 9°45 P. M., the Rahu current was close to Mars between points W and SW). At approximately 9.00 A.M., when Rahu is SW direction, it enters Uttarashada {21} and when 1} hours elapse it charges Abhijit (22A) and at 12 noon jumps to Chitra (14) when Rahu’s directiona! position is South. The current remains in Chitra for 14 hours, During the next period of 1} hours P. Phalguni (Il) is the station. Then it leaps to Pushya (8). In Pushya it remains for 1 hour, in Mrigasirsha (5) for a similar period and in Bharani (2) for another hour. As the Sun sets the current leaps back to Uttarashada just as Rahu proper shifts from SE to N point with current in West where the Sun is located, The sun-set hour on a Tuesday is thezefore inauspicious whatever the Panchanga compiler may say as Sun-Rahu are eternal enemies, It will be noticed that on this day there are four Dina-Shoola nakshatras viz : Hastha and Uttara-Phalguni in the East, Jyeshta in the South and Purva-Bhadrapada in the West. Sun is in the West, Rahu current in the North and Rahu proper in the North-East, 22 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA FRIDAY CYCLE (6) Ist Pimma : 3 Hours 2nd Pimma, : 3 Hours 3rd Pimma : 3 Hours 4th Pimma : 3 Hours THE LEAPS Chitra (14) to. W and Rahu moves from NE to W. Sunset time on a RAHU PIMMA NAKSHATRAS i Friday is very important in arriving at a good or bad time for a cere- mony, Muhurtha compilers should note this, Explanation: On a Friday, at sunrise, the Rahu current is in Chitra (14). At the end of an hour it enters P-Phalguni (I!) and in the 3rd hour it is in Pushya (8). At 9 A.M, it charges Mrigasirsha (5). During the period 10.30 AM., to 12 noon it will bz in Bharani (2). At 12.01 the current is thrown to Uttara-Bhadrapada (26) and between 1.30 to 3.00 P.M., it is in Dhanishta (23). From 3.00 P.M,, to 4.30 P.M., th: electro-magneric wave acti- vates Uttirashada (21), During the last 14 hours the power is in Jyeshta (18), Just before Rahu leaps back to ‘Chitra, the current point is at E, Sun is in W and Rahu’s directional strength is from NE to W. 24 RAHU PIMMA AND YAMA KALAYA SATURDAY CYCLE THE LEAPS a” es Pumma : — Hastha (13) to Punarvasu (7) Hours 2nd Pimma: Punarvasu to Rohini (4) 3 Hoars 3rd Pimma: Rohini to Ashwini (1) to Purva- 3 Houss Bhadrapada (25), 4th Pima: P-Bhadra to Shravana (22) 3 Hours (b) Puavasbada (20) to Anuradha (17) and back to Hastha. RAHU PIMMA NAKSHATRAS 25 Explanation: At sunrise the Rahu current is in the 13th star. At the end of 1} hours in Punarvasu (7)-—till hours elapse. Thereafter it jumps to Rohini (4) and occupies it dor 3 hours—forty-five minutes in each pada regardless of the fact that on a given day and time a certain pada of Rohii nakshatra is in power. From Ashwini (1), having stayed for }} hours, it shifis on to Purva-Bhadrapada (25). The foruth leap 1s in three stages viz :—Shravana (22) for | hour, Purvashada (20) for 1 hour and Anuradha (17) for | hour, Thereafter the current jeaps to Hastha. At sunset the force is at point N, Sun is in W and Rahu’s directional strength is about to transfer itself from NW to 8, At sunset, you will note that the two Rahu indicators are at opposite points—N and S. ELUCIDATION As this electro-magnetic current influences the world, at the set times, an astrologer in North or South I atitude shold ascertain the time at Colombo or Madras and the equivalent time in his locality, There is no country or time for electro-magnetism only the moment of occurence as ascertained at the Latitude of Lanka. You should . remember that during daylight hours—equatorial and the corresponding" time throughout the world—the entry -of the Rahu current is from the 4th quarter of the asterism and the exit from the Ist quarter during its transit in that particular star, After sunset the entry is from the Ist quarter ; the exit is from the 4th. Divide the time of the magnetic charge by 4 and you will know the pada or quarter position. If on a particular day the current should start from that day’s assigned asteristh (as revealed in she Ephemeris)then you should pay particular attention. to the suitability or otherwise of that star for the undertak- ing contemplated, As the four cardinal poits are subject toa state called ” Jamayg-Soolaya you should be careful in recommending a journey towards the East at sunrise ; to the West at sunsgt ; to the north at midnight and,to the South at sunset, CHAPTER II! In such an event the usual “Arkhakh sukro budhaschandrak” would not be of:much value. Many an astrologer will admit that on certain days and at certain times the usual horas are dead. I am glad I have been able to supply the missing link. Karaka natures Unless otherwise influenced, Sun and Moon are clas- sed as neutrals. Mars and Saturn, as a rule, stand for something bad and ill-luck. Mercury, Venus and Jupiter naturally signify success and property gains. Rahu and Kethu fall into the Adhama class—very bad and stand for death. ~~ It ie-for the conscientious astrologer to calculate and find the different strengths and weaknesses as per the rules and indications given so far. CHAPTER IV Aids to Prediction It is of much advantage to know the result of using a sign of the zodiac rather than knowing its nature to an extent that the theoritical supersedes the practical. The average student and the believer in astrology should be kept interested in the science as well as introduced into pre- dictive methods, This was the scheme in the ancient days. Theory and practice went together. During a period of over 6950 years society has chapged. Even so the rules given in this System could be used with confidence. Time changes but the law of Karma is enter- nal. Even today, in some part of the world or other, the discoveries of our Rishis could be tested and found true, Sign Portents Aries : Ifyou start a journey in Aries quarrels can arise at the other end. This an- cient metaphor means that the curreat jillumincs ike electricity the three parts of a sign as it passes through in its daily magnetic surge. The earth is divided into three sections, viz :—Dhatu, Moola and Jeeva. Dhatu stands for gold, silver, earthen vessels, stones, rocks and mineral objects and also includes bones, debris, ruins, water, salt, Moola indicates trees, creepers, flowers, yams, roots, fruits, all vegetables and objects of similar nature. Jeeva stands for animate things—those having prana or life, e. g. man, beast, bird, insect, reptile, fish, bacteria, ‘ As the current passes through an asterism it will illumine a section of a zodiacal sign. Its navamsaka at that time will tell the astrologer whether the good ot evil relates to Dhatu, Moola or Jeeva. A nakslatra pada is formed of 3°20’ and a navamsaka of a eign 1s ‘composed of the same space. The rishis divided the nakshatras and signs as follows and by that means were able to predict ‘a male or female birth and which of the «three ele- ments will be predominant at a given time.
