Vocabulary United Nations Human Rights Peace Security Economics Social Policy Human Rights Culture Security Council General Assembly Content Delivery After learning about the UN and its functions I will then switch the topic over to the news that is happening into the Ukraine. I will then show another video clip about what is going on between the Ukraine and Russia. After showing the video I will ask if the students if they have any questions and make any clarifications necessary. Next I will post the question on the board, Does Russia have the right to take over Crimea even though it belongs to the Ukraine. Then I will pass around a fish bowl and each student will grab a country with the name of a country on it. This is the country the will represent in the mock UN meeting. Student Engagement Students will set up the class with the Security Council countries at the head of the class and all of the General Assembly countries facing them. Staring of with Russia that student will give his reasoning for wanting to take Crimea. Next the student representing the Ukraine will give the reasons why Russia is in the wrong. Now the rest of the general assembly will give their reasoning why they agree with Russia or the Ukraine along with their solution to fix the problem and how it might affect their country in the future. Students are allowed to debate with other countries at the conference and give rebuttals to comments made towards them. Students should try to stay away from personal beliefs and argue for the best interest for the country they are representing. After everyone has discussed what they thought the Security Council will them Vote to see if they will stop Russia by force of to let them have Crimea. Each member of the Security Council must give their reasoning. Lesson Closure Students will write a Quick write on their personal thoughts about what is happening on the Crimean peninsula. They will also write about the pros and cons of the UN and how it will diffuse the problem. Student should write at least 3/4s of a page.

Assessment Progress Monitoring- As the students are having their mock conference I will pay attention to see that the students are discussing the topic and giving quality details and facts about the situation. Summative- The quick write at the end will allow me to see their personal opinions instead of arguing for the country they represent. The more facts about the effectiveness of the UN and the situation between the Ukraine and Russia the more I can see they understand the content.

Accommodations for English Learners, Striving Readers and Students with Special Needs EL and striving readers will get to see videos so they can visually see how the UN works and see the events happening in the Ukraine instead of just reading or hearing about the issue. A map will be posted in class so that all students can see where exactly their country is. Students having trouble linking their country to the conflict will receive extra info about their country.
