Artifact Reflection Artifact Title: Classroom Management Plan Date: Spring 2014 Artifact Description: This artifact is my classroom

management plan I made in my Pre-Student Teaching course in the Spring of 2014 at The University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The classroom management plan describes detailed steps and procedures I will follow in different situations in my classroom. The classroom management plan is a vital tool for educators because it makes sure the teacher stays consistent and is prepared for the enforcement of rules, positive and negative consequences, emergency situations, and other events that could take place in the classroom. Alignment: Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment: This standard best aligns with Standard 5: Learning Environment- The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation, This artifact best aligns with Standard 5 because the classroom management plan is the foundation of running an efficient, consistent classroom. With a well-thought out classroom management plan, the students will know exactly what is expected of them. Also, there will be no confusion as to the consequences for a students actions. If a teacher does not have a classroom management plan written down and accessible to the students, then they will argue the rules and procedures and the teacher will not have anything to justify the actions he or she may have taken. My classroom management plan was created to encourage a classroom full of conversation and collaboration. I am more competent now because I had never sat down and thought about the different situations I would encounter as a teacher, and how I will deal with these situations. The time I took envisioning my life as a professional educator and how I want my classroom to look was very beneficial to me. UW-Platteville Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Alignment This experience best aligns with KSD2.c : Managing Classroom Procedures- The candidate values and has the ability to manage self-motivated students and instructional groups who are productively and independently working at all times with classroom transitions and routines occurring smoothly. The teacher, volunteers, paraprofessionals and students share the responsibility for the classroom environment.

This aligns with KSD2.c because it allowed me to create a foundation for the exact way I want my classroom to function when I become a teacher. I created my classroom management plan so I could ponder the ways I will encourage my students to work independently and follow the rules. I had to put myself into hypothetical situations and try to figure out how I will handle them. I am more competent now because when I run through things in my head before I do them, I feel more prepared when the actual situation arises. It is like when I played baseball; before every play, I would run through each possible situation that could occur so I knew exactly what to do no matter what came up. Secondary KSDs: KSD2.b: Establishing a Culture for Learning KSD2.d: Managing Student Behavior KSD3.d: Providing Feedback to Students Reflection What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience: I learned that classroom management plans can be the difference between a teacher who makes it through his or her first few years in a classroom, and a teacher who cannot handle it and finds a new career. A leader is always prepared and knows how to consistently make decisions. I also learned that students learn better when they know exactly what is expected of them and there are no surprises. I will lose a lot of respect, and it will be harder to control my students if my expectations change from day to day. What I learned about myself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience: Through creating this classroom management plan, I learned that it is important to be prepared for everything and make sure I have a plan of action in case things do not go as I thought they would. Also, I learned that I have to have a system to everything I do and be consistent. If I am not consistent, the students will notice this and lose respect for me as a teacher.
