Our Topic: Art Therapy

We started with our issue being hospitalized children but we have expanded our issue to cover art therapy and its use in both hospital environments as well as centers that respond to people who have experienced traumatic events.

Art Therapy
Art therapy is the therapeutic use of art making by people who experience illness, trauma, or challenges in living and by people who seek personal development. Art therapy helps to cope with symptoms, stress and to get over traumatic experiences

At Dell Childrens three expressive therapies are offered: Art, music, and play therapy. The purpose of these are to manage pain, build coping skills, reduce stress/anxiety, and help children process their diagnosis

Fundraise for the Art of Giving event in March Volunteer at the Art of Giving event in March Collaborate with Anthony and Daniels group to plan an Easter event that incorporates arts and crafts for children and their families

The Art of Giving

The Art of Giving is an event hosted by Dell Childrens Hospital. The goal of the event is to raise money for the Child Life Art and Music Therapies Endowment at Dell Childrens through the creation of art. We have been in communication with the event coordinator, and have discussed volunteering at the event as well as becoming sponsors

What we are doing right now

We are currently in the process of communicating with both Dell Childrens hospital as well as Lefika la Phodiso in order to find a way that we can help in the best way possible. We are also in the process in planning ways to fundraise for these organizations. We are also planning on collaborating with Daniel and Anthony to organize an event with Dell Childrens that involves arts and crafts.

What we need to do

Figure out how/where/when we are going to fundraise (crowd raising?) Work on the details of our collaboration
with Daniel and Anthony (meeting next Thursday @ Dell Childrens) Finalize plans regarding the Art of Giving
