4
RATIONALE Goals Clear goals aligned with vision and curriculum. Communication between all stakeholders to develop and align goals.

3
Goals are mostly clear, most are aligned with vision and curriculum. Some communication among stakeholders. Most decisions made by one side.

2
Vague goals set without thought of aligning vision and curriculum. Little to no communication among stakeholders.

Technology choice

Chosen technology is most efficient and effective way to meet curricular goals.

Chosen technology Technology does is adequate in little to help achieve meeting curricular goals. goals.

Implementation is Missing one of the laid out in several following phases: distinct phases with staff training, time to ready piloting, or gradual technology, train roll-out. staff, pilot technology with small group, and rollout technology to full implementation. Full project timeline set from planning to everyday use. Benchmarks established to determine progress through the full implementation. Security measures are in place and tested. Policies in place for violations. (Ex. lost / stolen devices, broken devices, violations of AUP) Timeline set with few benchmarks established to measure progress.

Security

Security measures are in place but have not been tested. Policies are in place for violations.

Security measures are in place but have not been tested. No policies are in place for violations.

Administrative Support

The administrative team actively participates and fully supports all aspects of the technology initiative.

Members of the administrative team participate in planning of the technology initiative with minimal followup to the progress of the technology initiative. Infrastructure improvement plans are in place. Outdated hardware is scheduled to be replaced and bandwidth increases are planned to meet demands. Plans and procedures in place to provide maintenance, but not all aspects considered. Time frame set for regular maintenance. Teachers have some access to technology. 2-3 days per week Technology used frequently but mostly as a tool for the teacher.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure is in place to handle technology. (EX. bandwidth tested, wireless coverage, computer compatibility)

Wireless coverage is adequate but the supporting bandwidth will limit the functionality of the technology.

Technology Maintenance

Detailed plans and procedures in place to provide regular updates, repairs, and maintenance. Maintenance planned regularly.

Plans in place to provide maintenance. Lacks procedures. No set time frame for regular maintenance.

Students have frequent access to technology. 4-5 days per week Students use technology for personal productivity and to enhance learning.

Teachers rarely have access to technology. 1-2 days per week Technology rarely used to support student learning.

Students have some access to technology. 2-3 days per week Students technology use limited to productivity or learning.

Failed to set goals. No communication among stakeholders.

Great idea to start with goals on a rubric. The goals need to be clearly defined before any project can take place. Wondering if you could split this section into goals and then communication? I feel like both clear goals are good to assess, as well as a seperate section regarding how the communication is taking place. Seems like there are two different points that are being assessed here, and what if one is present but one is missing?

Technology chosen based on what people like instead of what will help to Great wording. meet goals. Technology is pushed out with no thought of phases.

Is there a reason that only staff training, piloting, or gradual roll-out are included in 3 and 2, but 4 has more descriptions? No timeline set.

Great section. Looking through the BVSD project, I could not find benchmarks with dates. I think that is a great component to have. No thought given to security. Security is a huge part of anything related to technology, and I feel as though this covers all the bases when it comes to not only the measures itself, but what happens when it is violated.

The administrative team does not participate in any aspect of the technology initiative.

I would add to the 4 column that administrative team actively follows up on roll-out progress. Infrastructure is out of date and will not support the technology initiative. No plans have been made to improve the Infrastructure is an often overlooked aspect of technology roll-outs, and I infrastructure. feel as though this language adequantly covers the necessary components. No plan or procedures in place What does "not all aspects for updating, considered" mean? Does that mean repairing or that there is not consideration of providing regular regular updates and repairs? Might maintenance to want to break that up differenetly to technology. highlight what steps need to be taken to reach the next level. Limited access to Good part on the rubric. This will show technology only. 2-3 days per month. clearly if technology use is up to standard for what the school wants. Technology not used at all. I like how this was seperated by something that students use to learn compared to just another tool for teachers only to use. Limited access to technology only. 2-3 days per month. Students technology use does not enhance education. Technology use is more of a distraction.

Wonder if collaboration could be added to this section somehow? I think the wording in this section could be stronger to reflect the true intended student use of the technology. Is it to become 21st century learners? Collaboration? Improve Connections? Or just productivity?

No training is provided to teachers to help with the implementation of technology.

This is super important to any roll-out, and I like the language used here. Technical support is left strictly to "IT Guy." I think that this section is also often overlooked. What about adding PLC somewhere in this category to even strengthen the connections more?
