Enhance the Orange County School District as it embraces the arts as an essential part of every child's core education. Expose high school students to key technical aspects of the arts. Students will gain considerable appreciation of the behind the scenes technical responsibilities. Increase student academic achievement consistent with numerous studies that cite students are more successful when involved with the arts. Music and the visual arts are heavily grounded in mathematical and physical principles. Students will be able to experience the direct connection between the arts, math and science. Celebrate outstanding achievements of student artists, and showcase their talents in a setting renowned for arts performances and exhibitions before an audience of students, family members, educators, philanthropists and community leaders.

Program Objectives
History of Theatre Describe the involvement of specific sciences in the history of theatre. Explain the pivotal role biology, chemistry, and physics, played in developing theatre. Explain/discuss History of Gender, Race, and Performance Compare and contrast the involvement of African Americans versus other races in major theatre productions. Discuss, through essay, the inclusion of males in major theatre productions. Debate the inclusion of minority women vs. men in major theatre performances in the last twenty years.

Program Objectives
Stage & Theatre Management
Describe the leadership essential to stage and theatre

management. Explain why the utilization of mathematics is critical in stage and theatre management. Discuss ways that measurement could/would be used in stage and theatre management. Evaluate a complete stage setup for a theatrical presentation. Calculate and measure (using metric units) the length of a customary theatre stage. Create and design stage props and a backdrop for a specific set performance.

Basics of Sound & Elements of Lighting

Sound Describe ways that technology is used to create stage sound. Prepare and construct a physical representation to show how sound is produced. Assemble a power point presentation illustrating how and why vocal cords are important in creating sounds. Explain how sound is created using a sound board. Explain the utilization of various body parts to create sound. Differentiate between vibration, compression, and rarefaction. Discuss the importance of each in developing sounds. Develop an artistic expression of sound using the human voice.

Program Objectives
Lighting Describe ways that technology is used to create various lighting systems. Discuss critical elements needed to create light and various colors of light. Develop a presentation to show ways that light carries information from the world to our brain. Examine the process of perception transfer to the brain. Effectively utilize technology to explore light. Identify and analyze specific color patterns and dot formation utilized to create other colors.

Program Activities
1.

Series of workshops to introduce basic concepts and provide exposure to the technical components of the theater/entertainment industry. Basics of Sound Elements of Lighting Design and Construction of Sets Scenery and Props Construct the set or backdrop for the culminating event as part of the workshops. Field Trip to theater/venue to view the behind the scenes work. (1 day) Present culminating concert and exhibits showcasing local student artists. Utilize students in the behind the scenes technical responsibilities. (2 days)
