PD Topic/Title: IEP Seminar

Please respond to the following prompts: 1. Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional Development experience. During the IEP Seminar, I learned it is important to collect all the needed background information from parents, collaborating teachers and other educational professionals through the data collection and assessment testing. Classroom strategies teachers can utilize in special education classes are oral instructions, students read out loud, and extended time for testing.

2. Discuss how these key points connect to your content area. Teachers must write down clear goals and objectives that will fit the students needs. Of course, it is important for teachers to collaborate with parents and the student because the IEP is based on his or her special needs. I will be a history teacher; I will have to manage students who exhibit behavioral problems and/or are tested for a special needs learning environment. My future school may require me to find the appropriate learning strategies within my own classroom to address all my students needs.

3. Share how you might use this new information in your future classroom. I will have to adjust my lesson plan in order to address the students who have needs under the Differentiated Instruction/Adaptions/Interventions section. I may have to redesign my seating arrangements for the students who are ADHD; I could have stand at their assigned table in the back of the classroom. IEPs are there to help not only the student; but the teacher too. IEPs are pro-active plans put into place to address the students behaviors and/or his or her low scores/testing areas.
