Sanam Soomro Race and Racism in American Science and Medicine Preliminary Paper Topic I am interested in the relationship

between race and racism and current research in biomedicine in terms of clinical trials or academic journal bias. I have found several articles exploring minority under representation in clinical trials pertaining to African Americans and South Asians in particular. I have also found that modern clinical trials require some kind of procedure to increase minority participation with recruitment practices before being approved, but they may not be as effective in practice. I have heard about journal bias and how it affects what kind of research investigators are motivated to explore, but I am not sure how much this is studied. I did find one article about an accusation of racism in academic publishing against black scholars especially in economics research, but maybe if I explore further, I can find more information pertaining to biomedical research. I believe if there were an underlying racism in clinical research, it would translate to distorted perceptions of how well a therapy works or how a disease is understood. If this perception is distorted, patients who do not respond to a therapy or have a different course of disease may be discriminated against with allegations of noncompliance.
