Cyber Security Club of Oakland University

March 22, 2014 Black and Gold Award Committee: I are writing to express our most sincere praise and recommendation for George Corser for the Black and Gold Award. As Vice President of the Cyber Security Club of Oakland University, CyberOU, I do not know anyone more deserving of this recognition. George Corser has been behind the idea of starting a cyber security club since day one and was a huge help in the clubs formation. George demonstrates the best of Oakland University. As a PhD candidate, George not only focuses on his research but engages with students at every level. He does everything possible to assist students and has provided great insight and advice to me both personally and when it comes to CyberOU. George does not have to go above and beyond but he does each and every day. He is always willing to stop whatever he is working on to make time for students. He has been key in discussing key club activities and has been a huge asset in planning events. He was our initial contact for our Meet & Greet with Chrysler event and stayed late with each of us while planning the Cyber Summit and numerous other events. Without George, CyberOU would not exist today nor would it have progressed to where it is. George has been a great inspiration and has provided unparalleled advice and insight. From a personal standpoint George has provided valuable insight when it comes to resume writing, interviewing, and the job offer. I was able to turn to George for help and advice while applying for various positions. He provided me with priceless insight stemming from his previous role of playing people in numerous positons. Georges influence reaches beyond CyberOU as well. He is the main reaso n the course CIT 448 (Information Security Practice) is so great today. When George taught the course, he revamped everything and setup an outline of 20% lecture, 80% lab. This has enabled students to gain valuable hands on experience with security tools that will make them very valuable in the classroom. His philosophy is, less teaching, more learning. He is paving the way for modern teaching practices. Furthermore, as TA of CIT 349 (Advanced System Administration) George created and thought all the labs. Again, he demonstrated his ability to give students hands on experience in the classroom that will translate to the job market. He is a pioneer of teaching innovation. I have never met anyone with such good character that embodies much motivation and desire. George has made a major impact on CyberOU, the School of Engineering and

Computer Science, and Oakland University as a whole. He shows great continued commitment to Oakland university students. I do not know of anyone else who has done more to help an organization and University thrive and succeed. If I can be of any more assistance, please feel free to contact me, Trpko S.
