Rubric for Short Story Goals Character Below Average (3) Character is weak, not well developed, acts

out of character. Point of view is confusing and nonlinear. Confusion as to who is speaking or who is being viewed is rampant. Average (4) Character is strong, acts congruously, but only one character is strong. Point of view is congruent in style throughout the paper. Point of view, when changed, is done so purposefully, but there is still confusion as to who is talking or who is being viewed. Plot is there, but some evidence of disjointedness is still present. Some confusion about movement in story and purpose of characters. Setting matches action of character, but does not necessarily back up the plot or have relevance to the story. Mismatches in setting as refer to plot and character. Conflict is present and developed, but does not match plot, setting, and/or character traits. Mismatch in congruity in how characters handle conflict. Theme is present, but characters act incongruously. Actions contradict themselves without purpose. Theme is barely developed.
