Standardization may also be a competitive strategy for new entrants to oppose the dominant firms There will be competition but that there is value in supporting on delivering product/services

Anticipatory standards are those standards that must be created before widespread acceptance of the device or services. Participatory standards are developed, tested and used in an interactive environment. Responsive standards occur to codify a product or service that has been sold with some success

HOW CONSENSUS IS REACHED??


Consensus based standards rely on the positive self-interest of the parties involved This encourages mutual agreements among competing organizations to support the creation of a standard The nature of the agreement, however, will depend on the activities of those participating in the consensus

WHERE WILL THE STANDARDS BE USED?


Applicability of a standard can be assessed in terms of market, industry or geography Traditionally, standards use has been associated with governmental or supragovernmental requirements which are enforced over a defined geographic area Industry groups may also develop standards that relate to a specific industry or market
