Francisco Torres de Navarra Assignment #3

The article Chagas the Americas New HIV/AIDS, I thought was very well written and informative. I also felt that the article made several reasonable and accurate claims. The articles outlines what Chagas is first along with the treatment methods, the regions and statistics of the regions that it is popular in. After that the article goes on to outline HIV/AIDS and everything about the diseases. The next part of the article compares the two and outlines all the ways that the two diseases are similar. The article also goes on to point out all the key differences between the two diseases to show that they are not exactly the same. The reason articles do this is to show that the information is well researched and also to highlight the lack of differences further proving their similarities. The article points out that the treatment methods for the two diseases are very similar. Along with the price of the treatment and the mortality rates between the two diseases. The article shows with several graphs done by the university of Washington how similar the mortality and infection rates are between the two diseases. Along with that the article points out that the diseases effect similar groups of people in the americas. The latin and african american communities are heavily effected. Along with the poverty class of america are a large percent of those effected by the diseases here in the americas. I thought the article was very correct in their assumptions and the research the backed it with. Chagas is clearly more curable then HIV/AIDS but it is similar in multitude of ways. I also really liked how they went out of their way to point out the differences in the two diseases because it showed the research was well put together. All in all the piece was very well written and informative and made me believe that most of the statements claimed are correct and supported well. The references for the article are excellent and all very easy to access further proving the research is sound and well put

together. The authors of the article are also esteemed professors and professionals in the field discussed. I believe this article is a great piece if information for students learning about the subject. I also really enjoyed how much this relates and helps for what is going on in our class. Just the other day we discussed whether Chagas diseases is an epidemic in America and i think this article is a great piece of literature to relate to the subject of Chagas in the Americas. It takes a very relatable and real disease that is popular here in the Americas and relates it to something more u known and mysterious and really supports its claims and key points.
