Reflection Connecting Outcomes, Standards, and Artifacts 1. The Research Models artifact proves that I have knowledge of a variety of research models that would be helpful when teaching students about the research process. The various models from Pathways to Knowledge Model to the Big 6 Model can be implemented with various learners for a many different research purposes. (AASL 3.4; PSC 3.c; NCATE 3.c) 2. The Weebly Reference Log that I created demonstrates that I have researched many different reference materials including both print and online resources for student and teacher use. I have evaluated these resources in an attempt to find the best resources for the patrons to utilize and also made recommendations as to what content areas would find each resource most valuable. The 2 Year Program artifact indicates that I have the ability to develop a two year plan for both instruction and reading promotion in the media center. The plan includes programs such as: Book Clubs, Reading Incentive Programs, Prezi instructional opportunities, Book Fair, Video projects, and Glogster tutorials. These programs will be carried through not only by the media specialist but also with collaboration with other teachers. (AASL 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 3.2, 3.3; PSC 1.f, 4.a, 7.d; NCATE 1.f, 4.a) 2. The School-wide Program, similar to the 2 Year Program artifact shows planned lessons for specific content and grade levels throughout a school. These programs call for collaboration among the media specialist and teacher and use both literature, technology, and various other forms of media. The School-wide program also details lessons set for a variety of learners such as: Advanced and Gifted students, At-risk students, Emotionally Disturbed students, Special Education students, and ESOL. The Pre and Post-test allow for student assessment before lesson implementation and to show the growth of students and the success of the lesson through the data collected. (AASL 1.2, 3.2; PSC 1.f, 3.c; NCATE 1.f, 3.c) 4. The two Pathfinder artifacts display resources gathered for specific content areas (Social Studies & History). These resources serve as a place for both students and teachers to visit for research assistance, literature, videos, and lesson ideas all based upon learning standards. 1. The Professional Development Module artifact displays a professional development plan that will be used to help teachers learn how to operate digital tools and resources that can be used to promote student learning and creativity and that are also grade level appropriate. The Web 2.0 Tools (Glogster, Animoto, and Wordle) are instruments that allow the teacher and student to customize their learning and express their creativity. The Principals Power Point is a presentation to be shown to administration in order for him or her to develop an awareness of the importance of having a high qualified media specialist in a school library. It also provides data as to why reading is such an important factor in a students overall success in school, college, and career, therefore current and valuable resources must be available in the library. One must take into consideration other factors that may impact learning such as: lack of technology, funding, location of school, and poverty level.
